Motorola Offers User-Customizable Faceplates for i50sx Mobile Phones
Users Can Custom-Design Unique Interchangeable Faceplates
For Motorola i50sx Handsets
Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today
announced user-customizable faceplates for the Motorola i50sx mobile phone.
For the first time, users can custom-design unique graphics for the
interchangeable faceplates of their Motorola mobile phones and even add
personal photos and signatures.
To create a personalized faceplate, Motorola i50sx handset owners simply visit a website (www.motorola.com/store/iden), which provides a template of the faceplate and user-friendly graphics editing tools. The website offers a variety of background designs, available in solid colors and patterns, such as animal prints and nature scenes. Users can then add text in various colors, fonts and sizes. A drawing tool with different colors and brush styles lets users further customize the faceplate. Users can also upload photos of their family, friends or pets, as well as graphics such as the user's signature.
Once the design is finalized, an order is placed, and the user receives the faceplate in approximately two to three weeks. The interchangeability of the faceplates allows users to easily swap faceplates whenever they choose. For example, users can design separate faceplates for business and personal use.
"The ability to create one-of-a-kind faceplates provides consumers with yet another way to express their individuality and personalize their mobile phones," said Peter Aloumanis, vice president of Motorola and director of U.S. market operations for the company's iDEN(R) Subscriber Group. "Now, users can customize the outside of their phone with one-of-a-kind faceplates and the inside of their phone with business and entertainment software applications, such as games and calendars, to meet their individual needs."
The Motorola i50sx handsets use Java(TM) 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)) technology, which allows users to download and run applications, similar to the way users update their PCs or PDAs. The phones are sold with several applications pre-installed, including a calculator and the SEGA game, Borkov. Additional applications can be downloaded at www.motorola.com/idenupdate .
User-customizable faceplates are available through www.motorola.com/store/iden for $34.95. Motorola i50sx handsets are available through Nextel Communications in the United States.
