Handspring Introduces $99 Pricing for Treo 180 Communicator

Dec. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Handspring, Inc. (NASDAQ:HAND) today announced an incredible holiday offer for its Treo 180 communicators for the breakthrough price of $99 after mail in rebate. For a limited time, and only while supplies last, customers who purchase a Treo 180 or 180g with a GPRS service contract from T-Mobile will be eligible to receive $150 through a mail-in rebate. Handspring's GPRS software brings a new level of performance and simplicity to Treo by enhancing applications like email and web browsing with faster, always-on connections to high-speed data networks. The $99 after rebate incentive on Treo 180 is exclusively available at www.handspring.com. A GSM service contract from T-Mobile that includes a 10MB or higher GPRS data plan (recommended for Treo customers) is required to qualify for the rebate.

"With this promotion, Handspring is delivering one of the most powerful communications products available for less than the price of a basic PDA," said Joe Sipher, vice president of marketing for Handspring, Inc. "At $99, the ability to combine a mobile phone with a Palm OS organizer is more compelling than ever. And with full web browsing and messaging, no other product comes close to delivering this much value today."

The Handspring Treo family is designed to make mobile communications easier than ever before. Treo communicators combine a mobile phone, Palm OS organizer, email, and web browsing into one lightweight, compact device. Built-in thumb operated keyboards make sending email, messages, and dialing the phone fast and easy. No other device available today offers the rich combination of wireless voice and data capabilities at such a competitive price.

In addition to providing always-on, high-speed connections to wireless networks, Handspring's GPRS software includes a number of significant improvements to the phone, messaging, web browsing and email applications on Treo. In the SMS application for example, web pages can be launched, phone numbers dialed, and emails addressed by simply tapping the corresponding information (URL, phone number or email address) that arrives in a text message. There is also a new Mute button as well as helpful keyboard hints built into the phone application. And with the GPRS upgrade, Treo is automatically configured for data access -- there is no need for manual configurations or an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
