Gateway Moves to Flat Panel Displays, CDRW Drives as Standard Equipment
Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In the latest example of its technology leadership, Gateway, Inc. (NYSE:GTW) today eliminates cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors and CD-ROM drives from its standard line-up. The company's entry-level PCs are now equipped with LCD flat panel displays and CD burners, with prices starting at just $699 after $100 mail-in rebate for desktops and $999 for notebooks. Gateway's latest price reductions bolster its mobile and desktop PC lines, which have already won numerous awards this year for design, performance and value.

New configurations introduced this week include the Gateway 300S at $699 after $100 mail-in rebate and the Gateway 300X at $999. The Gateway 300S features an Intel Celeron processor 1.8GHz, 128MB DDR SDRAM, 40GB hard drive, CDRW and 15-inch LCD flat panel display. The more powerful Gateway 300X features an Intel Pentium 4 processor 1.8GHz, 256MB DDR SDRAM, 60GB hard drive and CDRW in a 6-Bay Mid Tower Case with 15-inch LCD flat panel display. For customers who want to take advantage of mobile computing, the Gateway Solo 1450 starts at $999 with Intel Celeron processor 1.33GHz, 256MB SD RAM, 20GB hard drive, CDRW/DVD combo drive and 14.1-inch XGA TFT active matrix display.
While the CRT and CD-ROM have been eliminated from Gateway's standard offerings, the company continues to offer configuration flexibility. Gateway's personalized technology solutions enable customers to enhance or downgrade most component options if they choose.
