Gateway Launches National Broadband PC Offers
June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gateway today marks the completion of its national broadband service rollout initiated last year. Nearly all Gateway stores in cable-serviced areas of the U.S. now offer high-speed cable Internet service, either as part of a value-priced Gateway technology solution or as a standalone package.
To support its unique solutions that combine PCs, cable modems and discounts on high-speed Internet access, Gateway's national marketing campaign includes broadcast and print advertising as well as direct marketing.
Throughout the last year, Gateway established relationships with all of the top broadband providers including Adelphia, America Online, AT&T Broadband, Charter, Comcast, Cox and Earthlink. The company sold more than 50,000 subscriptions to its customers during this time.
"Gateway is focused on delivering solutions that help customers get more enjoyment and functionality out of their PCs," said Mike Flanary, Gateway's vice president of communication solutions. "While everyone's talking about the benefits of broadband, Gateway is driving adoption and delivering real solutions that incorporate high-speed Internet access. Our unique broadband PC offers open up new possibilities for the way customers use technology to work, play and communicate with family and friends."
Broadband enhances the PC experience for customers who want to share photos and videos, download software, play games online and retrieve digital music legally. According to the Consumer Electronics Association, 92 percent of cable and DSL users are satisfied with their ISP service.
When customers qualify and purchase a broadband subscription with a Gateway Pentium 4-based system starting at $799, they may be eligible to receive a free cable modem (up to a $149 value) and discounts on high-speed Internet access, up to $15 per month. Gateway also offers additional products that help customers take advantage of their high-speed connection such as training courses, wireless home networking and installation, and various solutions for digital photography, music and video.
"Intel works closely with Gateway to help consumers unleash all the power in their new Pentium 4 processor-based PCs with a high-speed broadband connection," said John Davies, Vice President of Business Solutions, Intel Corporation. "We think this type of national rollout program is an excellent vehicle to help accelerate the deployment and benefits of broadband."
Interest and adoption of high-speed Internet access has increased dramatically in the last year, and Gateway has played a key role in driving this demand. According to Forrester Research, broadband adoption grew by 72 percent in the period from December 2000 to December 2001 and is expected to grow nearly 80% in 2002.(4) When consumers come into Gateway stores, they can see how broadband works, ask questions, find out immediately whether the service is available to their home, and purchase complete solutions that include the hardware and service they need.
