Casio Introduces The New CASSIOPEIA FIVA MPC-701

Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Casio, Inc. today announced the CASSIOPEIA FIVA MPC-701 Series of Pen Tablet Computers for vertical market applications that can be used in a wide range of environments both indoors and out.

* Transflective TFT LCD ( MPC-701M30E): To be released in September 2002
* Transmissive TFT LCD ( MPC-701M50E): To be released in December 2002

The CASSIOPEIA FIVA MPC-701 Series is equipped with features that permit reliable operation in varied environments. Equipped with a transflective TFT LCD and enjoying the benefits of both reflective and transmissive LCDs, the MPC-701M30E has an easy to read display by using external light without a backlight in a bright environment, or by using its built-in backlight when it is needed.

Both models permit extended, continuous operation by the use of a low power consuming, high performance Transmeta CPU, Crusoe(TM5800) and a dual battery pack.

With the IPx2-compliant water splash resistance, the Pen Tablet Computer can be operated in many environments.

Some examples of potential markets and applications for this series are:

* On-site electronic documents for maintenance, on site construction progress control
* Graphic order entry terminals in retail stores
* Accident reporting and damage estimation in the field
* Presentation and consultation by sales representatives at client sites
* Delivery control and product promotion at customer sites

The lineup consists of two models enabling customers to select the model suitable for them:

* MPC-701M30E is equipped with a transflective TFT LCD, which provides easy use outdoors
* Built in backlight for indoors. Using a photo-sensor for detecting the amount of ambient light available, the backlight can be automatically activated.
* MPC-701M50E incorporates a transmissive TFT LCD, which gives the best visibility indoors

CASSIOPEIA FIVA MPC-701 FEATURES

* Long operation is enabled by use of a low power consuming, high performance CPU, Crusoe (TM5800), to suppress heating of the main body. In addition, high compatibility is assured for x86 processor programs.

* This product can be used for ten hours maximum (operating time varies depending on use) with the low power consuming CPU running on the dual battery pack.

* This product is equipped with a hot-swap function that allows the batteries to be changed with the power on. This function helps improve work efficiency, as the batteries can be changed without interrupting your work.

* The hand-writing recognition tool can be used to efficiently input the latest information as soon as it is obtained at the site. In addition, the product has an independent numeric key pad with backlit keys, allowing the user to input numerical data even in total darkness.

* The thin and compact body of 1-inch/26-mm in thickness weighs only about 3.1 lbs/1,400g. The IPx2 compliant water splash proof capability allows use without worry, even outdoors or in places exposed to water leakage.

* IPx2: No harmful influences shall be caused by water splash falling at angles ranging from vertical to 15 degrees.

* Multi interfaces come standard, without the need for any port replicator or docking station. A LAN port compatible with 100Base-TX, a PC card (Type II) slot, a CF card (Type II) slot, and a V.90/K56flex-compliant modem are integrated. A wireless LAN card and a data communications card for cellular phones (optional and sold separately), can also be used permitting connections with different networks. Outstanding expandability is possible by using the integrated USB (Ver.2.0x1, Ver1.1x1) port, an infrared communications port and a port for output to an external display.

* Windows 2000 Professional for high reliability and security is installed. An abundance of software is available for Windows 2000.
