A Mouse So Small, It Can Fly

Logitech(R) MouseMan(R) Traveler(TM) is a Compact Optical Mouse For the Business Person on the Go Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Logitech (Nasdaq: LOGIY) (Switzerland: LOGN, LOGZ), today announced a new mouse with a sleek ultra-slim profile optimized for business travelers who depend on a notebook computer. No longer will these notebook users have to struggle with a difficult-to-use integrated pointing device such as a touch-pad or stick. Now there is a small-scale mouse with the features and functionality of its desktop relatives. Logitech has taken into consideration the challenges that business travelers face and has developed a mouse to meet these specific needs. MouseMan(R) Traveler(TM) is currently available in the U.S. at retail outlets and online for $49.95 USD. In Europe, the mouse will be available in early November for 99 DM or the local equivalent.

MouseMan Traveler features a seamless industrial design of brushed aluminium that gives the appearance of one solid piece of metal. This unique design results in a clean, modern look of simplicity that complements the streamlined look and feel of other popular travel accessories. The slim body of the mouse allows it to easily slip into a notebook case or work on small airplane serving trays and in other cramped work spaces.

In spite of its small size, MouseMan Traveler does not skimp on features -- it is equipped with a new optical sensor that is now in all of Logitech's optical mice. This sensor provides an 800 dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution that yields twice the accuracy of previous sensors for improved tracking on all surfaces without the need for a mouse pad. The mouse also offers the convenience of a three-button design with scroll wheel. Because of the compelling way in which form meets function in this mouse, the result is a product that embodies mobility, comfort and functionality in a tool that most mobile computer users will find extremely attractive. Each MouseMan Traveler ships with an attractive black protective carrying case and includes a three-foot USB extension for desktop use.

"This new mouse delivers the same mouse functionality that our customers have come to expect around the desktop, but in an attractive, compact and slim design specifically for the mobile environment," said Chris Bull, director of product marketing for pointing devices at Logitech. "On top of the convenience afforded by its portable size, the optical sensor means that the mouse will work on nearly all surfaces without a mouse pad, which is another great benefit when working in a crowded space."

Using Logitech MouseWare(R) drivers, each of the buttons can be programmed to the user's preference. The iTouch(TM) software, included with all Logitech mice, lets users instantly access the Internet and favorite web sites by simply depressing the scroll wheel button. MouseMan Traveler uses either a USB or a PS/2 interface and is compatible with Windows(R) 95 or later, as well as Macintosh(R) 8.6 or later operating systems. All of Logitech products are also compatible with the Windows(R) XP operating system. Windows(R) XP-compatible drivers are available for download from the Logitech web site. MouseMan Traveler has a five-year limited warranty.

About Optical: MouseMan Traveler uses a proprietary optical positioning sensor developed by Logitech and Agilent Technologies. The sensor tracks its relative location by "taking a picture" of the surface on which the mouse is operating. Each captured image is then sequentially analyzed by a powerful digital signal processor, which detects the speed and direction of even the slightest movement and translates it into smooth cursor movements on the computer screen. Optical mice offer more precise pointing and movement, and because they have no ball or cavity, no cleaning is necessary.
