Buffalo Technology Introduces New Line of Gigabit Networking Products

October 14, 2003 - Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wireless networking solutions announced today that it is expanding its product offerings to include a line of gigabit networking solutions geared toward SMB and SOHO networks. The new line of gigabit products includes:

  • Gigabit Desktop PCI Adapter (LGY-PCI32-GT): $32 (estimated street price)
  • 4-port Unmanaged Gigabit Switch (LSW-GT-4W): $139 (estimated street price)
  • 8-port Unmanaged Gigabit Switch (LSW-GT-8W): $169 (estimated street price)

"These products allow our resellers to offer future-proof products and provide users with the ability to grow with very little up-front cost," stated Morikazu Sano, vice president of Buffalo Technology. "Buffalo is also providing the performance and reliability that small-to-medium and home businesses demand. These are scalable solutions that are easy-to-use and affordable. They are perfect for increasing network performance and bandwidth, while protecting a business' current investment."

The LGY-PCI32-GT is a 32-bit high-speed gigabit over copper desktop PCI adapter that is designed to increase the performance of PC's that process heavy traffic on the network, such as video streaming or graphics. The product features a single auto-negotiating RJ-45 port that can detect the connected cable type. The LGY-PCI32-GT provides excellent performance with transmission rates of up to 1000Mbps and offers Jumbo frame support, which gives users the ability to significantly reduce system-level packet processing overhead. The adapter also supports IP multicasting for enhanced bandwidth efficiency and automatically detects and uses the highest transfer speed available in a network segment. Designed to support the latest networking technologies, the LGY-PCI32-GT seamlessly integrates into any existing network.

Buffalo's 4-port and 8-port unmanaged Layer 2 switches (LSW-GT-4W and the LSW-GT-8W) offer users a cost effective way to migrate from Ethernet to Gigabit. For increased network efficiency, the gigabit switches provide data transfer rates of up to 1000Mbps on each port. All ports support Full Duplex for 1000Mbps and Full/Half Duplex for 10/100Mbps for enhanced throughput on both Ethernet and gigabit networks. Back Pressure Control alleviates traffic congestion and ensures reliable data transmission.

The switches also feature auto-negotiation and auto-MDIX, which allow the switches to automatically detect and configure the cable type connected to each port. Using 802.3x Flow Control and Back Pressure Management, these products ensure bandwidth-intensive applications like video streaming and heavy file transfers operate smoothly and without any dropped packets or collisions. The products can accept up to 8192 MAC addresses at a cost of $34 per port (LSW-GT-4W) and $21 per port (LSW-GT-8W).

Backed by a limited two-year warranty and toll free 24/7 technical support, Buffalo's new gigabit networking products will be available in October 2003 through resellers, distributors and channel partners.
