Apple just unveiled its new iMac featuring a 17-inch widescreen LCD that floats in mid-air, allowing users to adjust its height or angle with just a touch. The 17-inch LCD flat screen iMac also features an 800 MHz PowerPC G4 processor, NVIDIA GeForce4 MX graphics, a SuperDrive for playing and burning CDs and DVDs, and a large 80GB hard drive that can hold more than six hours of video, 15,000 songs and 73,000 digital photos. The new 17-inch iMac also includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD applications, making it the ultimate Digital Hub for digital music, photos and movies. At just one inch thin, the 17-inch widescreen display has a wide aspect ratio of 16:10, allowing users to watch DVDs in letter-box format. The display has a resolution of 1440 by 900 pixels -- 64 percent more pixels than the 15-inch flat screen iMac.
Every iMac includes Apple's suite of digital lifestyle software, including the new iTunes 3 for organizing and burning digital music, iMovie for creating digital movies and iPhoto for organizing and sharing digital photos. The new 17-inch flat screen iMac also offers the SuperDrive and Apple's iDVD software to let users easily create and burn their own custom DVDs that play in consumer DVD players.
The four-model iMac family features:
-- a 17-inch widescreen LCD or 15-inch flat screen display;
-- an 800 MHz or 700 MHz PowerPC G4 processor with Velocity Engine;
-- two FireWire and five USB ports for fast, simple, plug-and-play
connections to digital devices such as digital MP3 players, still
