APC Introduces a 3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router that Fits in the Palm of Your Han

June 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Power Conversion today announced a 3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router, a wireless networking solution for both mobile and home office environments. The Wireless Mobile Router allows PC or laptop users to quickly access a network and the Internet without a direct cable connection. It is a compact and light solution with three modes of operation including an access point, access point router, and Ethernet client mode. Powered via a USB port or the included power adapter, the portable mobile router costs less than $70.

* As a router, the unit connects multiple networks together via a wireless connection such as a local network and the Internet. This eliminates the need for a wired connection to a network. APC's 3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router also provides various security options allowing users to set the protection and manageability levels of the network.
* As an access point, the unit acts as a wireless bridge between an existing LAN and wireless user. It provides the freedom to put a computer anywhere within the range of the APC 3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router.
* In Ethernet client mode, the unit provides wireless access to devices such desktop PCs, game consoles, and digital video recorders containing an Ethernet port. In this mode, the unit simply connects to an existing wireless network.

"Today's mobile users want high speed Internet connectivity and simply do not wish to be overloaded by cables and bulky adapters any longer. Current solutions that tie a mobile user to a port on the wall are restrictive and do not meet the needs of today's mobile travelers," said Joe Loberti, general manager, APC Consumer Network Solutions Group. "APC's new solution gives users wireless connectivity in a variety of environments such as a hotels, airports, and conference rooms. The device's client mode feature makes it perfect for applications such as on-line gaming and media streaming. In wireless Ethernet client mode, users do not have to rely on a wire to stream media to a device such as digital video recorder or play on-line games on their game consoles. This product not only helps you create your own hotspot when traveling, but also seamlessly fits into an existing home network offering wireless connectivity."

The 3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router allows for a distance of up to 300 feet between the router and card bus. It offers Wi-Fi protected access pre-shared key (WPA-PSK) and 128/64 bit WEP Encryption with built-in firewall protection. This solution also fits seamlessly in the internal pocket of the APC Power Ready Notebook Cases.

Today's announcement further expands APC's mobile availability solutions, which includes the innovative APC Universal Power Adapter. The adapter charges and powers up to three electronic devices simultaneously from a single air, auto, or standard AC power outlet. When the 3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router is used with APC's Universal Power Adapter it is possible to power the router, a notebook computer, and a mobile phone simultaneously from any single air, auto, or AC power outlet. Bulky power adapters are unnecessary when using the APC Universal Power Adapter, which helps to reduce weight and save space when traveling.

The Universal Power Adapter is PC and Mac compatible and is currently available in North America for an estimated resale price of $79.99. APC's new 3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router is available in North America and has an estimated resale price of $69.99.
