Telemann Introduces First Affordable HDTV Receiver PC Add-In Card
Telemann Systems has introduced the HiPixTM DTV-200, the first affordable (under $400) PC receiver add-in card to support ATSC terrestrial broadcasts giving full resolution HDTV on either a PC monitor or television. Now any consumer with the card, a PC and an HDTV-ready monitor or TV can enjoy the spectacular clarity of live HDTV digital broadcasts that are up to six times better than conventional analog broadcasts.
In a separate announcement this week, Samsung announced support for the HiPix DTV-200 via its new SyncMaster 240T. The SyncMaster 240T is the first HDTV-Ready dual analog/digital LCD monitor. The HiPix DTV-200 will be demonstrated in Samsung’s booth at Comdex (Booth L 4832 ). In addition to users viewing an HDTV broadcast, the HiPix DTV-200 features an intuitive on-screen user interface that enables the PC’s hard drive to store, record and replay programming at the same high quality 1080i resolution. Now, users can store a program and watch HDTV programming at their own convenience. The card provides Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and is also designed to take any video input resolution and transcode it to 720p or 1080i resolution. It can convert all 18 ATSC formats up to 720p and 1080i and also records the MPEG-2 stream. The card also comes equipped for IP multicasting, video scaling of camcorder or VCR sources, analog stereo input/output, electronic program guide and an IR remote control system. The HiPix DTV-200 plugs into an industry standard PCI slot in the PC, and includes a software control panel and a CD-ROM for auto-install of drivers and application. The ability to transcode all formats to any resolution is a plus, said Pat Megenity, home theater computers editor and HDTV expert for Stereophile Guide to Home Theater. Early adopters will be very, very excited about this product. There is pent up demand for an actual, affordable way of enjoying the crystal clear projection of HDTV, says Ray Newstead, vice president of Corporate Marketing at Telemann. Our OEM customers are very excited about delivering on the promise of HDTV to the consumer. As the leading monitor manufacturer, Samsung is committed to meet and exceed the needs of its display customers, says Fred Garcia, director of marketing for Samsung’s Digital Information Technology Division. Delivering HDTV quality and enjoyment by adding Telemann’s card as an option with our new SyncMaster 240T demonstrates real value for our customers. Telemann will soon be announcing other OEM partners who will be integrating the card. The HiPix DTV-200 retails for $399 and will be available in December.
