PalmPak Travel Card: Rand McNally Road Atlas Wins Best of COMDEX Award

Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Rand McNally and Palm received a Best of COMDEX 2001 award for the best mobile/handheld software at this year's event. The award was presented by a group of leading technology publications to Palm and Rand McNally for the co-branded PalmPak(R) Travel Card: Rand McNally Road Atlas for Palm(TM) m505, m500 and m125 handhelds that are based on Rand McNally's flagship print Road Atlas. The PalmPak Travel Card: Rand McNally Road Atlas contains maps and road travel information for the United States (excluding Hawaii and Alaska), allowing users to create city-to-city driving directions for more than 12,000 cities, and includes a detailed database of amenities for more than 10,000 highway exits.

"We are thrilled that the PalmPak Travel Card: Rand McNally Road Atlas has been selected as the best of the many mobile/handheld software applications presented at COMDEX," said Robert P. Denaro, senior vice president for Rand McNally's business-to-business unit. "Just as Rand McNally's flagship paper Road Atlas has been indispensable to drivers across the nation, we believe that our move to the digital realm via Palm's Expansion Cards will be a huge hit with consumers, especially as more travelers are taking to their cars more for both business and leisure trips."

"This solution truly exemplifies the power of Palm Expansion Cards -- now you won't get lost if you have your Palm m125, m500 or m505 handheld," said Kevin Hell, senior vice president of product management, Solutions Group, at Palm, Inc. "The Palm Expansion Card technology enables users to access a whole new world of information, wherever they are."

The PalmPak Travel Card: Rand McNally Road Atlas features more than a half million miles of U.S. highways and major roads, the most of any Palm handheld mapping application to date. Users will be able to create city-to-city driving directions and access the detailed database of highway exit information, which includes gas, lodging, food and ATMs. Additional functions include the ability to search by city, state, exit number, radius and three-letter airport codes; mileage and driving time calculations; and narrative descriptions of thousands of Rand McNally-researched point-of-interest listings, such as shopping and attractions. The PalmPak Travel Card: Rand McNally Road Atlas also coordinates with Rand McNally's print Road Atlas through consistent page and grid references in both products.

The new Rand McNally Road Atlas PalmPak Travel Card has an estimated street price of $39.95 and is scheduled to be available in retail stores in the United States and Canada in late November and also online at the Travel Store on randmcnally.com (http://www.randmcnally.com) and The Palm Store (http://store.palm.com).
