Oracle and Compaq Deliver Next-Generation Internet Appliances at Comdex

11/14/2000 -- Oracle and Compaq yesterday announced the December availability, through selected distribution partners, of a next generation Internet appliance based on the Oracle9i Application Server and the Compaq ProLiant DL360 ultra thin 2-way server. The Oracle9i Application Server's patented Web Cache technology will add unprecedented levels of scalability, availability and performance to the Oracle8i Database Appliance, the simplest way today to deploy e-business.
Designed specifically to increase the ease of customer deployment, Internet server appliances from Oracle, Compaq and selected value-add channel partners are pre-configured solutions in a single box that can be installed within minutes, in one easy step. Companies typically can spend days or weeks and significant IT support resources on just installing software onto hardware, working on fine tuning all of the general capabilities of the solution. The Oracle9i Application Server Appliance eliminates such work entirely, and it can even be managed remotely, further minimizing the drain on IT resources.

The Oracle9i Application Server Appliance being introduced by Oracle and Compaq is designed to take the leg work out of installing and managing the computer systems behind heavily-trafficked or fast-growing Web sites, while also greatly improving the performance of the Web site so that users receive Web pages and data more quickly. As Web site use increases and additional scalability or performance is needed, the Oracle9i Application Server Appliance allows Web site managers to easily add an Oracle-Compaq Application Server Appliance into a rack.
