iRobot Corporation Debuts Web-Controlled Robot at COMDEX 2000

iRobotThe iRobot-LE is the first multi-purpose robot that can be controlled through a Web browser from anywhere in the world. The robot gives people on demand remote eyes and ears and allows them to "project themselves" into another location. Over the Internet, users can "WebDrive" the iRobot-LE wherever a person can comfortably walk. The upcoming product demo marks the first time that the iRobot-LE and its WebDrive application will be shown to a public audience.
"At COMDEX, we're exposing the public to a sophisticated, intelligent, Internet-connected robot for the first time," says Helen Greiner, President and co-founder of iRobot Corporation. "We encourage people to visit our booth and see the iRobot-LE in action. This technology will change our lives, from how we do business to how we interact with family and friends."

The iRobot-LE has both home and business applications. With its roving telepresence capability, owners can keep an eye on their homes, stay in touch with family, and invite friends to drop-by for a visit. Businesses can use the iRobot-LE to allow customers to personally visit their facilities, help telecommuters work more effectively, and enable employees to interact and collaborate between remote locations.

"WebDrive is the first compelling mobile robot applications in the consumer and business space," says Greiner. "To complement WebDrive, we are developing a host of other applications that iRobot-LE owners will be able to download from the iRobot website."

A limited quantity of orders for the iRobot-LE are currently being accepted for delivery in Q1 2001. $4995 www.irobot.com.
