Intel Teams With HP to Design Concept PC 2001

Nov. 13, 2001-- Intel Corporation today unveiled Concept PC 2001, a joint collaboration between Intel Labs and Hewlett-Packard's Business Desktop Division Labs that uses the power of the Intel Pentium 4 processor platform for future PC innovation. With the use of Universal Serial Bus 2.0 (USB 2.0), Concept PC 2001 uniquely places computing components into separate "personal" and "computing" elements for revolutionary space savings and flexibility. "Concept PC 2001 demonstrates that high performance computing doesn't have to sacrifice personal versatility and user flexibility," said Pat Gelsinger, chief technology officer, Intel Corporation. The computing element measures 4.5"H x 12.8"W x 14.8"D and contains sealed and secure devices to offer increased control for information technology managers. The personal element, an 18-inch flat screen monitor, provides access to everything a user needs through a single component. It features a Web camera, speakers, USB plug and play connectivity, a CD-writer and a wireless keyboard and mouse with the use of Bluetooth and RF technologies. Additionally, the personal element can be hung from the wall or placed on a rotating arm to free up desk space and reduce clutter for ultimate adaptability.

Harnessing the highest performance of the Intel Pentium 4 processor in a very small footprint, the Concept PC 2001 demonstrates a motherboard layout with an aligned airflow to improve overall thermal performance and validates industry-leading low acoustics. The concept features Microsoft Windows XP Pro, Bluetooth and RF wireless keyboard and mouse, USB 2.0, ATI low profile RADEON(a) 7500 AGP video adapter and DVI interface LCD monitor.
