Hauppauge Demonstrates Home Networked WINTV-PVR at ComdexKen Plotkin, Hauppauge Digital's Chief Executive Officer, said "The ability to pause live TV, and to record and burn CD-ROMS from TV which can be played in home DVD players, will create a incredibly compelling new use for PC's. We expect that the WinTV-PVR will start a new category of video products in the home, and will help make the PC a key feature of the home entertainment center." WinTV-PVR uses a high quality MPEG2 hardware compressor, which can record studio quality video on a PC's hard disk. MPEG2, the same advanced technology used in satellite broadcasts and DVD movies, provides high quality video and audio while minimizing hard disk usage. Since the built-in MPEG compressor does not require the CPU, recording can be done without affecting any other PC application. For example, a PC user can surf the net at full speed while the WinTV-PVR is recording a TV show to disk. "The WinTV-PVR is the first in a line of digital video recorders which we have had under development for 1 1/2 years. Now, users can record and share their TV shows between networked PCs in their home," asserted Ken Aupperle, Hauppauge's President. Compatible with Microsoft Windows 98 and WindowsMe, the WinTV-PVR occupies a single PCI slot and also includes an FM stereo radio feature, and a handheld IR remote control. WinTV-PVR is available for $249 from retailers worldwide. Hauppauge Digital, Inc.
