Acer CMA Makes Noise at COMDEX
Nov. 5, 2001-- Acer Communications & Multimedia America Inc. (CMA), one of the world's leading computer peripheral manufacturers and suppliers, today announced the latest in its line of ultra-portable multimedia projectors as well as several advanced wireless input devices.
The new products include the Acer SL705X and VP150X projectors, the latest in Acer's affordable lightweight series, as well as several new optical and wireless input products.
Continuing in the tradition of offering super-lightweight portable projectors, the 3-pound Acer SL705X uses advanced DLP technology combined with 1000 ANSI lumens output. The DLP technology offers excellent light efficiency and allows for the projector to be ultra-portable.
Functions such as digital zoom, HDTV-compatibility and picture-in-picture (PIP) allow the SL705X to be used for a wide array of media applications. Particularly useful in a business presentation or educational lecture, the PIP function allows the user to display two screens at once from two different sources.
With a 600:1 contrast ratio, the SL705X provides razor-sharp picture quality. In addition, the projector's throw ratio of 60 inches at 2 meters allows for bigger screen projection.
Amazingly compact and designed for corporate sales executives, the SL705X can easily be carried to meetings in a carry-on bag with the laptop. The mobility of the SL705X also makes it an outstanding value for educational institutions that must share one projector among many classrooms or departments.
The Acer VP150X, weighing in at 8 pounds, uses advanced LCD technology combined with 1800 ANSI lumens to deliver superior brightness and more accurate color than previous digital projector technologies. Pixelation is nearly undetectable and the distribution of light is smooth and consistent over the entire image area.
The VP150X uses a 150-watt UHE lamp to produce consistent brightness levels throughout the entire image area and has the added benefit of extended life -- lasting an average of 2,000 hours. This 2,000-hour lamp life significantly lowers the operational cost for this unit -- making it an exceptional value.
In addition to the bright output and light travel weight, the VP150X offers high-end features such as a wireless mouse function and an objective display camera (available as an optional accessory) to provide business presenters with ease of use. The versatile VP150X is also ideal for educational purposes and home theater entertainment. Both the Acer SL705X and VP150X digital projectors offer XGA (1024 x 768) in their native resolution, but also offer up to SXGA (1280 x 1024) resolution with Acer's advanced compression technology.
The SL705X will be available in December 2001, with a MSRP of $4,995, while the VP150X will reach the market in January 2002, priced at $5,395 (MSRP). Both projectors come with a 3-year limited warranty and the first year includes Acer's Hot Swap service in which Acer pays for the two-way shipping should a projector need to be repaired or replaced.
Input Devices
Acer also introduces several state-of-the-art input devices including the small and lightweight G180 keyboard that can be used with either a desktop PC or PDA. The 7-ounce keyboard measures only 27x13x1.7 cm, almost half the size of a regular keyboard, making it not only portable, but also space saving. The G180 will be available in December 2001, at a MSRP of $70.
If users prefer wireless keyboards, the Acer 52TP and 52GP both feature a 27 MHz radio frequency with a multichannel design for home and office use, allowing users to move about freely. The Acer 52TP and 52GP will be in stores December 2001, for $90 (MSRP).
Acer rounds out its input product peripheral line with the introduction of the Acer M101 miniature mouse, featuring an optical sensor that sends 1,500 signals-per-second to a digital signal processor which determines the exact position of the cursor.
The mini mouse is now available at an MSRP of $40. Its compact size allows for ultra portability, making it the perfect laptop accessory. The M101 also comes in a choice of blue, red, yellow or green, making it a colorful companion for any desktop or notebook computer. A matching colored-light source from inside the mouse unit, which glows through a translucent wheel, gives the M101 a high-tech look.
