SIRIUS Showcases New Products at 2004 Consumer Electronics ShowJan. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, SIRIUS Satellite Radio announced innovative new products and services for satellite radio, introduced new hardware partners, expanded its programming lineup and welcomed acclaimed artist and songwriter Steven Van Zandt to the SIRIUS programming team. "The Consumer Electronics show is a pivotal event for SIRIUS, and we are thrilled to showcase what the future holds for us and to welcome new partners to the SIRIUS family," said Joseph P. Clayton, President and CEO, SIRIUS. "SIRIUS and satellite radio are the future of audio entertainment, and we will be providing CES attendees with a sample of what they can expect from the company heading into 2004."
Expanded Services: Video, Traffic Information and Surround Sound Technologies Showcased SIRIUS plans to offer real-time traffic information to subscribers beginning in early 2005. This new feature will be offered in a range of tiered service options and will be compatible with navigational systems used by automotive OEMs and aftermarket suppliers. SIRIUS also introduced satellite radio's first surround sound capability with the launch of matrix surround broadcasts over SIRIUS' music streams. The SIRIUS-only technology is compatible with virtually all surround sound audio systems already on the market, including such names as Dolby, SRS and Logic 7, and does not require any additional hardware for consumers.
Product: New Products and Partners Strengthen SIRIUS' Brand Lineup SIRIUS and Pana-Pacific announced that their portable boombox will be available at commercial truck dealers and truck stops with a MSRP of $99.95. This portable boombox is designed to operate with STREAMER, the transportable radio from Pana-Pacific. SIRIUS also unveiled the KT-SR1000, the first portable Plug & Play satellite radio product manufactured by JVC. The JVC Plug & Play, which resembles a handheld PC device and has many exciting features, allows subscribers to use the same SIRIUS receiver in their car, home, office, boat and RV. It will retail for $99.95 and be available at electronics and mobile audio retailers across the country beginning in late January. SIRIUS also announced agreements with Alpine Electronics and Blaupunkt to market and manufacture SIRIUS-ready hardware in 2004. Crestron, Niles Audio and Tivoli have all agreed to manufacture and market specialty in-home SIRIUS radios for retail.
Programming: Refinement and Additions to Team Highlight Programming Leadership Also, Steven Van Zandt, famed songwriter and entertainer, will join SIRIUS as Creative Consultant, where he will create a new Garage Rock stream scheduled to launch later this year.
