Samsung's Portable DVD-L100 Wins Innovation Award
January 8, 2002-Samsung Electronics USA, Inc., a recognized
DVD innovator, raises the bar in the portable DVD category with the
introduction of the CES Innovations Award winner DVD-L100, the first portable
DVD player with Memory Stick compatibility. Featuring a 10-inch TFT-LCD
display in true 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, the largest available on the
market today, the DVD-L100 is the only portable DVD player to be honored
with the prestigious Consumer Electronics Show's Innovation Design and
Engineering Award for 2002. Samsung's mobile player is on display with its
complete line of advanced DVD products at ICES 2002, January 8th to the 11th
at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Hall booth #657.
The DVD-L100 offers movies-on-the-go in a more compact, convenient and
feature-rich format than a standard laptop. Designed for business travelers
and families on the go, the DVD-L100 is housed in a sleek chassis measuring
a slim 0.9" so that it is easily carried or stored almost anywhere.
The built-in Memory Stick port allows users to instantly view their favorite
digital photos or listen to hours of music recorded in the popular MP3
format. Business travelers can even prepare for meetings by viewing
presentations converted to JPEG files.
The DVD-L100's innovative screen inversion system allows for easy mounting nearly anywhere in a RV, SUV or minivan for space-saving DVD enjoyment during long family trips. Dual headphone outputs are included so the kids can watch movies in the back seat, while parents concentrate on the road.
Claude Frank, Senior Marketing Manager for Digital Audio/Video, Samsung Electronics USA, Inc., said, "The DVD-L100 solves many challenges of portable DVD players while providing an elegant solution to DVD entertainment on the road. Samsung has introduced a player that not only provides quality DVD viewing, but also stays a step ahead of competitive models in terms of on-the-go features. The DVD-L100 is unobtrusive when closed, yet gives the viewer the largest picture available from any portable DVD player."
Big On Features
Though incredibly slim, the DVD-L100 is big on features, with a full complement of analog and digital audio outputs, as well as both composite and S-video connections. A handy credit card remote control is included, making it simple to navigate even the latest feature-rich DVD selections. Lifting the widescreen display reveals an attractive, yet robust disc bay that reliably plays DVDs and CD's regardless of the player's position. Frequently used controls are discreetly laid out on either side of the bay, making basic operations a snap.
Memory Stick Convenience
New to a host of Samsung's DVD players this year, the innovative Memory Stick brings new convenience to MP3 music files, providing virtually instant transfer of music from a user's PC or Memory Stick compatible portable device, to a home stereo system or connected TV. In addition to photo CDs and MP3 encoded CD-Rs, the powerful DVD-L100 also handles DVDs, CDs, DVD-Rs, video CD's and HDCD encoded audio discs.
Built to provide long-lasting entertainment on the go, theDVD-L100 employs Samsung's Smart Inverter Control system (SIC) for extended battery life. LCD display systems can eat up more than 30% of the total power required for portable DVDs. This exclusive Samsung technology monitors ambient light conditions, and adjusts the display's backlight accordingly to save power. The result is superior picture quality with playing time of up to three hours on the standard battery; a six-hour battery is an optional addition.
The DVD-L100 will be available in April at $1,299.99 (MSRP).
