Olympus Announces Mac Compatibility for Digital Voice Recorders

DS-2000 January 9, 2002 -- Olympus America announced today Macintosh compatibility for most of its digital recorders. The DS-2000, DS-3000, DS-320 and DS-150 recorders will now all work with the Mac with Olympus’ new free software, DSS Players for the Mac. The new Mac software enables the user to manage all of their digital dictation. It automates many manual functions, such as auto-detection and USB auto-download of dictation from the recorder. Additional functions include conversion of Olympus DSS (digital speech standard) files to AIFF files; ability to drag and drop DSS files as email attachments; and direct recording onto your Mac through an Olympus digital recorder. Transcriptionists can interface an Olympus RS-23 footswitch to the USB port for easy manual transcription of recordings.

"We are very excited about the release of this software," said Keith Swiderski, Product Manager Voice Recorders, Consumer Products Group, Olympus America Inc. "Mac users are an important segment of voice recorder users, and are a very important customer base for Olympus due to our strength in digital cameras. Mac customers have been waiting a long time for this functionality and we are proud to be the first manufacturer to make digital recorders Mac-compatible."

The Olympus DSS Player for the Mac works with Macintosh versions 8.6, 9.x, and 10.1 and above and is compatible with the Olympus DS-150, DS-320, DS-2000, DS-3000 and DM-1 (voice only) digital voice recorders. The Olympus software is available immediately for free download at www.olympusamerica.com http://www.olympusamerica.com/ at the "software downloads" page. A CD-ROM can also be obtained by calling Olympus.
