LG Electronics Unveils World's First 76-Inch Plasma Display
Jan. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In a move to further solidify its position as the leading global manufacturer of high-definition plasma display panels (PDPs), LG Electronics debuts the world's first 76-inch PDP this week at the 2004 International Consumer Electronics Show.
The launch of the widescreen 76-inch PDP is expected to be one of the "biggest" attention grabbers at this year's show and a clear indicator of LG's move to make its mark on the U.S. market. The stunning 76-incher will be showcased at the company's booth, Las Vegas Convention Center, #8314 Central Hall.
Planned for U.S. shipments in fourth-quarter 2004, the 76-inch PDP features a superior-quality, high-definition screen, with 2.07 million pixels and 1920 x 1080 progressive-scan high-definition resolution. The PDP is unbelievably slim, measuring only 83 mm deep, making it the most advanced flat panel display in terms of screen quality, size and thickness.
"This is a very important time for LG in the United States. We are leveraging our global leadership position to enter the highly competitive U.S. digital television, display and media categories to secure both market share and mindshare here in 2004. The 76-inch PDP exemplifies our company's innovations and serves as a powerful symbol of our premier brand positioning," said Michael Ahn, president and CEO of LG Electronics USA, Inc.
LG Electronics is currently building the world's largest and most advanced plasma production plant in Gumi, Korea, and is expected to seize the leadership position in the PDP global market by the second half of 2004. The new plant will host the largest single-line production facility in the world.
