First Auto Security System to Effectively Stop 'Hot-Wiring'
2001 INTERNATIONAL CES, -- PowerLock, the first auto security system designed to eliminate any possibility of thieves "hot-wiring" a vehicle, will be featured at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Jan. 6-9, 2001 in Las Vegas.
PowerLock attaches permanently to a vehicle's starter motor and cannot be circumvented by cutting and jumping ignition wires, the "hot-wiring" technique used by professional car thieves in the vast majority of stolen car cases nationwide.
"Auto theft is the number one property crime in the U.S., costing consumers and insurance companies $7.5 billion in losses every year," said James Cooper, CEO of Ultimate Security Systems Corporation (USSC) of Irvine, Calif., makers of PowerLock. "Thefts continue despite all the security products on the market, such as car alarms, steering wheel and pedal locks, and expensive electronic tracking systems. "Our patented product is the first auto security device that cannot be bypassed the way all other devices can, " Cooper said. "Other systems are circumvented at the ignition under the dash or along the path between the ignition and starter motor under the hood."
PowerLock has a suggested retail price of $279, including installation. It is available through a nationwide network of dealers. Interested consumers can call customer service toll-free at (866) 235-7171 or visit www.powerlock.com to locate a nearby dealer.
PowerLock's system control/key reader is mounted either under the dash or on the dash and is wired to a module connected to the starter solenoid. The solenoid module controls the current to the starting circuitry and is permanently attached to the starter motor with patented one-way interlocking jaws. The module cannot be removed without disabling the starter motor.
After installation, a PowerLock owner simply places an electronic, coded key against the key reader to deactivate the system and start the car. The key's random electronic access code cannot be duplicated. When the ignition is turned off, the system automatically rearms after 45 seconds.
A Valet Mode allows for temporary deactivation of the system for parking attendants, auto service and repairs, or car washes.
PowerLock is designed to fit all foreign and domestic makes and models. The device does not affect vehicle emissions, electrical or ignition systems, existing security systems or keyless entry, or void any warranties.
USSC backs PowerLock's ability to prevent hot-wiring with a $10,000 lifetime anti-theft guarantee. Ultimate Security Systems Corporation, 2082 Michelson Drive, Ste. 100, Irvine, Calif. 92612; (800) 689-8004.
