Dual Time Zone, Analog/Digital Atomix Wristwatches are a First in Watch Industry

Jan 5th -- Whether traveling or conducting business across time zones, you can now have the time accurate to a fraction of a second in two zones at once! The Atomix wristwatch, already the most accurate timepiece available, will debut two new fashionable wristwatch models incorporating unique, state-of-the-art dual time zone, analog/digital features at the 2001 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 6 - 9. This dual time zone, analog/digital atomic watch combination is the first of its kind in the United States and will be on view at the Consumer Electronics Show at the Geneva Technologies booth #4258 in the North Hall, LVCC.
In addition to a traditional analog display, the new Atomix analog/digital watch displays time, date, and other information on two liquid crystal displays (LCDs), a new feature to these kinds of watches. The times displayed can be set to two different time zones and both analog and digital displays are synchronized to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. Atomix watches are the only wristwatches in the United States to incorporate dual time zone atomic time technology.

A quartz oscillator, like the ones found in most modern watches, drives the Atomix wristwatches. However, Atomix wristwatches also utilize atomic time technology. They contain a receiver module that picks up an AM radio time signal that synchronizes the clock to the NIST atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. This precise time information is used to calibrate an internal oscillator, a feature found only in Atomix watches. Atomix watches perform an internal check daily and make corrections to the time display if the oscillator notes a discrepancy¾for example when daylight saving time changes. In the new models to be introduced at the CES, both the analog and digital displays are corrected.

In the new Atomix(tm) analog/digital watch an internal micro Controller, more complex and sophisticated than any other in the industry to date, computes and stores the information. Should there be any interruption in the reception of the radio signal, the watch continues with extremely precise timekeeping. In addition to displaying time in both analog and digital displays, and tracking two time zones, the watch provides multiple functions, including stopwatch and alarm functions. Time zone changes can be made more quickly than with any other watch.

Additional features of the new Atomix analog/digital wristwatch include an analog three hands display, scratch-resistant mineral glass lens, illuminated digital displays, a leather strap, and a two-year battery life. The Atomix wristwatch comes in two styles: a white face with a black leather band and a black face with a brown leather band.

"This breakthrough in watch and clock technology allows Geneva Technologies to offer consumers¾as well as watch aficionados¾the most accurate timepiece available," said Joe Beckman, Geneva Technologies, Inc.

Retailing at $299, the Atomix analog/digital time zone watch is the first such timepiece available in the U.S. www.atomixtime.com
