SmugMug: Unlimited Photo Storage, Ad Free

SmugMug With the popularity of digital cameras and prices of media cards dropping, photo hobbyists are looking for places to store their digital photos rather than taking up space on their computers. Many decide to store images using a photo sharing service. But with so many to choose from how does someone go about finding the one perfect for them?

I was recently given the opportunity to check out SmugMug. With over 30 templates and multiple color options, I was able to create a gallery as individual as me. Did I mention that SmugMug has unlimited photo storage? Perfect for me as I frequently attend music events and been known to shoot as many as 500 photos in a single night! And with no ads, my friends don’t get annoyed when viewing my pictures. Also, friends don’t have to register to view my pics (unlike some other photo sharing services).

Here are some features that make SmugMug different:

  • Customer Service: Being a family owned and operated business, user satisfaction is SmugMug’s top priority. Most service and support questions are answered within 10 minutes by other SmugMug pros!
  • Customizable Photo Galleries: Easily customize each gallery to give it its own flair in an advertisement free environment. Unique and personalized page designs allow family and friends to post messages and purchase favorite prints and collectibles without paying for a membership
  • Enhanced Picture Quality: Enjoy online photos that are larger, crisper and cleaner. SmugMug also uses a professional lab to develop their customer’s prints, as opposed to sites like Shutterfly and Kodak Gallery who use more “consumer friendly” photo labs
  • Affordability: By only offering affordable membership options (starting at $39.95/year), family and friends can enjoy the service without the hassle of pop ups or other spam items

And that’s not all. SmugMug just announced SmugIslands. SmugIslands lets you select whether your photo galleries are hidden or found by search engines like Google and Yahoo!, or the internal search capabilities within SmugMug. You can set preferences for each of your photo galleries or make preferences apply to all photos. A member island is essentially an entire collection, excluding galleries marked as invisible.

SmugMug’s President, Chris MacAskill said “Our customers brought the enhanced security issue to us based on their concerns about having treasured family photos available to anyone who might search them out for nefarious purposes. SmugIslands provides the needed security our members were seeking, and then some, by providing the tools to build utterly private photo pages that give the owner absolute control over who can view photos. This is one island that is perfect for anyone who stores and shares photos online and demands total privacy.”
