ABOUT HIGH HAMPTON INN: High Hampton Inn (www.highhamptoninn.com), in the mountains of Cashiers, NC, has been a secluded vacation mecca for generations of families, golfers, honeymooners, tennis and bridge players, outdoor enthusiasts, birding and gardening aficionados, and historians since 1922. Its splendorous natural setting, and its rustic inn and cottages sans televisions and telephones, are prized as an escape from fast-paced modern life to simpler pleasures. Once the summer home of Confederate General, S.C. Governor and U.S. Senator Wade Hampton, the family-owned High Hampton is still the favored retreat chosen by many seasoned world travelers for relaxing in the mountain climate, reveling in nature and bonding with loved ones. People of all ages play croquet on the lawn, paddle around the lake, attend artists' workshops, enjoy sumptuous home cooking, and play table games by the lodge fireplace. Listed in 100 Best Family Resorts in North America and the National Register of Historic Places, High Hampton Inn is open from late April to mid-November annually; the Inn marks its 84th season in 2006.
