Mow Down the Usual Gift Ideas for Dad

May 2006-- Calling all Father's Day gift givers: Does Dad ever complain about aches and pains after mowing the lawn? If so, he's definitely not the first. According to a national study of 665 adults, sponsored by mower manufacturer Lawn- Boy as part of its efforts to put a stop to those aches and pains, nearly a third of lawn-mowing consumers reported a sore back after they finished. Mowers also reported problems with shoulders, arms, hands, legs or feet.

With the belief that lawn mowers should adjust to each individual to avoid aches and pains, Lawn-Boy conducted experiential research among homeowners. This research evaluated the entire mower-related process - from purchasing the mower and putting it together to emptying the bag and storing the mower. The result was a variety of improvements to make mowing easier, such as adjustable handles, ergonomic grips, reduced mower weight and easy-turn wheels. Other body-friendly features on Lawn-Boy's new line of Insight and Insight Gold mowers include a bag you can remove with just one hand, and a self-propel system that automatically senses and adjusts to your walking speed up to 5 miles per hour.
