It’s Time to Expect More from Food Waste Disposers
October 10, 2006 – Those who spend a lot of time in the kitchen know that conversation usually comes to a standstill the moment they turn on their noisy food waste disposer. Many of those same people also cross their fingers each Thanksgiving when they put substantial amounts of food waste down the disposer, hoping for no jams. Thanks to the new InSinkErator Evolution Series Disposers, both of those issues have been virtually eliminated.
The Evolution Series features SoundSeal technology, which reduces disposer noise up to 60 percent, and MultiGrind technology, which allows homeowners to grind virtually any food waste, without the fear of jams and clogs.
According to a recent InSinkErator survey, the Evolution Series Disposers will be a welcome addition to kitchens nationwide. The survey asked 1,000 American adults what they would like to change about their current food waste disposers. Following are the results:
- Sound – too loud 62 percent
- Grinding ability 21 percent
- Power 9 percent
- Capacity 6 percent
- Size of unit 2 percent
“Improved grinding ability and reduced noise are the most common requests we’ve heard over the years from consumers,” said InSinkErator president Jerry Ryder. “The Evolution Series addresses both of these requests and sets a higher standard for disposers. From corncobs to rib bones to potato peels, disposers with our MultiGrind and MultiGrind Plus technologies can grind almost anything, while the new SoundSeal and SoundSeal Plus technologies allow the user to hear almost nothing.”
“More and more consumers are becoming kitchen-savvy, demanding the same high-end kitchen appliances that professional chefs use,” said Iron Chef Cat Cora of the FOOD Network’s Iron Chef America, author of Cat Cora’s Kitchens and InSinkErator spokesperson. “The Evolution Series is strong enough to use in a professional kitchen and quiet enough to use while entertaining at home.”
The new series includes the Evolution Excel, Evolution Essential, Evolution Compact, Evolution Cover Control and Evolution Septic Assist, featuring MultiGrind, MultiGrind Plus, SoundSeal and SoundSeal Plus technologies. The patented technologies developed by InSinkErator are key to the product’s revolutionary performance.
MultiGrind features two stages of grinding while MultiGrind Plus offers a third stage. SoundSeal reduces noise by at least 40 percent versus a standard disposer, and SoundSeal Plus reduces noise by at least 60 percent.
MultiGrind technology includes features that combine to grind food waste significantly better than any previous disposer:
- GrindShear Ring – Grinds food in two stages. Food is ground into small particles along the surface of the ring. Then, particles are forced through a series of 40 pass-through windows and sheared into finer waste – the solution for foods like cornhusks and celery.
- Stainless Steel Grind Chamber and Components – Stainless steel design protects against corrosion and adds strength, prolonging the life of the product.
- Heavy-Duty Dura-Drive Motor – Engineered to the same specifications as motors in washers, dryers and other major appliances, this motor reliably handles heavy daily use while delivering maximum grinding power.
- Tri-Action Lug System – This system features fixed and swivel lugs that work with the GrindShear Ring to perform the first and second stages of grind. Fixed lugs grind particles finer than the swivel lugs alone, and the system’s lug configuration propels water throughout the grind chamber, helping to rinse and clean it.
- Undercutter Disk – Located along the outer edge of the shredder plate, the undercutter disk performs the third stage of grind. It cuts the particles one more time after they’ve passed through the GrindShear Ring to help eliminate clogs.
- Jam-Sensor Circuit – This circuit senses when a jam is imminent and automatically engages, increasing rotational torque of the motor up to 500 percent while simultaneously pulsing at a rate of 60 times per second. It produces a powerful hammering effect that breaks through the toughest jams before you know there’s a problem.
- Anti-Vibration Mount – This isolates the disposer in a cushion of rubber, which reduces the transfer of noise and vibration from the disposer to the sink.
- Quiet Collar Sink Baffle – The baffle design causes running water to pool in the sink opening. The resulting thin “water dam” acts as a cap on the disposer and reduces the noise that comes up through the sink opening. Also, baffles are made with rubber that is treated with an antimicrobial substance that inhibits the growth of bacterial odors.
- Anti-Vibration Tailpipe Mount – Reduces noise by mounting the tailpipe in a cushion of rubber that reduces the vibration transmitted to downstream plumbing.
- Multi-Layer SoundLimiter Insulation – This insulation features multiple layers of open and closed cell material that muffle and trap noise emitted by the disposer. The InSinkErator Evolution Series will be available at home retailers nationwide beginning in September 2006.
- Evolution Excel – Featuring MultiGrind Plus with three grind stages to let users quickly grind virtually any food waste. And with SoundSeal Plus, the Evolution Excel is the ultimate in performance. Nothing grinds more with less noise.
- Evolution Essential – Featuring MultiGrind and SoundSeal technologies, it provides a new standard in sound and grind performance. It is the ideal choice for a wide range of kitchens.
- Evolution Compact – Featuring MultiGrind, SoundSeal and a 34.6-ounce stainless steel grind chamber, it is the new standard in sound and grind performance in a compact size.
- Evolution Cover Control – Featuring MultiGrind, SoundSeal Plus and a Magnetic CoverStart Activation, it is perfect for those seeking an extra margin of assurance in the kitchen.
- Evolution Septic Assist – Featuring MultiGrind, SoundSeal and Bio-Charge Injection, it offers the new standard in sound and grind performance, created for homes with septic systems.
Nearly as dramatic as the Evolution Series performance is the stylish, modern look of the new line. From the stainless steel exterior of the Evolution Excel to the sleek, black look of the Evolution Compact, people will now be proud to open the cabinets below their sink.
“With the Evolution Series making such great strides in grinding ability and noise reduction, we felt it was just natural for the product’s look to reinforce these improvements as well,” Ryder said. “The food waste disposer is now an appliance that can add to a kitchen’s design appeal."
