Hoover Unveils New WindTunnel 2 Technology

June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Hoover today announced WindTunnel 2 technology, the next generation of the Hoover WindTunnel technology. Many conventional vacuum cleaners, by design, can scatter dirt back into the carpeting because the brush roll and airflow don't work in harmony. However, Hoover engineers developed the WindTunnel technology to lift and trap dirt without scattering it back into the carpet, which means the dirt ends up in the cleaner and not on the floor. The Hoover WindTunnel 2 uprights clean carpets better than any other leading brand*.

Hoover's patented WindTunnel technology was introduced in 1997. The unique and enhanced design of the new WindTunnel 2 technology features two patented air tunnels that trap dirt and channel it away. The result is a vacuum cleaner that leaves less dirt in the carpet than any other leading brand*. In addition, the WindTunnel 2 technology is paired with a patent-pending, self-cleaning HEPA filter. Unlike vacuum filters that trap dirt and then require removal and cleaning, the patent-pending, self-cleaning HEPA filter automatically cleans itself every six seconds to maintain a high level of cleaning**.

"Consumers shouldn't have to worry about dirt scattered back onto the floor by the same cleaning tool designed to eliminate it," said Dave Baker, vice president and general manager, Hoover. "For years, the WindTunnel technology has been incorporated into highly efficient vacuum cleaners. With the WindTunnel 2 upright, we have made this technology even better, helping our vacuum cleaners to work harder for the consumer and deliver a cleaning experience that cannot be matched by any other leading brand."

The Hoover WindTunnel 2 vacuum is available in four bagless models, each with a variety of features and capabilities, including several models designed for targeted consumer cleaning needs. Specifically, the Hoover WindTunnel 2 Complete Bagless Upright Vacuum includes following standard and advanced features:

  • WindTunnel 2 Technology: Actually lifts and traps dirt so it won't scatter back into your carpet.
  • Patent-Pending, Self-Cleaning HEPA Filter: Hoover's revolutionary HEPA filter design continually cleans itself of dirt, fine dust and particles to maintain a high level of cleaning and get deep-down dirt. The filter cleans itself automatically every six seconds and traps 100 percent of dust mites, ragweed and common grass pollen. The filter never needs to be replaced**.
  • Surface Command Electronic Height Adjustment and Brush Shutoff: Vacuum moves from surface to surface without consumers needing to stop, bend or reach. For height adjustment at their fingertips, users just turn the dial for the desired setting.
  • Embedded Dirt FINDER System: Features a sensing technology to notify the user when the carpet is clean. Vacuum is removing dirt when light is red. Carpet is clean when light turns green.
  • Automatic Brush Shutoff: Automatically stops the brush when in the upright position, so all the cleaning power is focused in the hose.
  • Lifetime Belt: No need to ever replace the belt**.
  • Real-Time Tool System with Tag-Along Grip: The handle will instantly convert to a telescopic wand with a tag-along grip to guide the cleaner. The vacuum can move from floor to tool cleaning without interruption.
  • Pet Hair Cleaning Tool: Attachment features powerful suction and rotating brushes for the removal of pet hair and dirt from stairs and upholstery.
  • Edge Cleaners: Remove dirt right up to the baseboards.
  • Telescoping Quick-Release Wand: Consumers no longer need to bend and stretch as the wand reaches all the way to the floor even when standing.
  • Adjustable Handle Height: Handle can be easily adjusted for people of all heights to use comfortably.
  • Extra Reach Hose: The telescoping wand and stretch hose gives consumers a full 20 feet of combined cleaning reach -- perfect for cleaning stairs and hard-to-reach places.
  • Hard-Floor Brush: Cleans hard surfaces safely and quickly.

The Hoover WindTunnel 2 vacuums have been available in retail outlets nationwide since mid-June 2006 at a suggested retail price of $299 to $479. For more information on the product, technology or detailed model features, log onto www.hoover.com.
