Sierra Wireless AirCard 597E ExpressCard to Launch on Sprint Network
May 22, 2007 – Sierra Wireless today announced plans to supply the new Sierra Wireless AirCard® 597E ExpressCard for operation on the Sprint Mobile Broadband EV-DO Rev A network. Designed to provide mobile broadband connectivity for notebook computers with the newer ExpressCard slots, the Sprint Mobile Broadband ExpressCard by Sierra Wireless will be available online at www.sprint.com and in business sales channels beginning in mid-June. Sprint is demonstrating the AirCard 597E ExpressCard this week at Interop, held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas until May 25 (Booth #837).
In addition to its more compact form factor, the AirCard 597E ExpressCard offers several advancements over earlier cards, including built-in assisted GPS (A-GPS) to support location-based services. Using the GPS chipset and the latest version of Sprint Connection Manager, users can conduct a “locate and search,” which plots their current location on a map and then searches for nearby points of interest. The AirCard 597E also offers a high-performance integrated antenna to improve signal capture and data speed, and the new 65-nanometer (65nm) MSM6800A chipset from QUALCOMM, with improved power-efficiency, wireless data and GPS performance.
“The AirCard 597E ExpressCard is not only the smallest external modem we have ever produced, but the most functional as well,” said Dan Schieler, senior vice president, Worldwide Sales for Sierra Wireless. “It offers the latest chipset technology, as well as new features and enhancements to improve the user experience and help our customers take full advantage of the services offered on the Sprint Mobile Broadband network.”
