Alpine Ships New Double-DIN Audio/Video + Navigation Head Unit

May 2007 – For consumers seeking a customized in-dash solution that offers full connectivity and total control over a plethora of digital media sources, plus the option to add navigation, the search is now over. Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., the industry-leading manufacturer of automotive mobile media solutions, announced that the company’s IVA-W205 double-DIN head unit is shipping.

The IVA-W205 is a robust DVD/CD/MP3/WMA AV head unit with a 6.5-inch QVGA touch screen monitor. The touch screen uses Alpine’s third-generation Pulse Touch™ technology, which gives users tactile feedback confirmation when touched. In addition to satisfying consumers’ desires to enjoy all-in-one connectivity with touch-screen access to a vast array of digital entertainment sources, services and devices, the IVA-W205 also serves as the docking station for Alpine’s second-generation PMD-B200 Blackbird portable navigation device. The PMD-B200, available in early summer, fits inside a designated slot behind the IVA-W205’s faceplate.

Many of the most popular and newest digital entertainment services and portable consumer electronics, including XM™ or SIRIUS™ satellite radio, HD Radio™, iPod® and Microsoft USB-based MP3 players, can be easily integrated into and controlled through the IVA-W205. (Separate adapters, tuner boxes and service subscriptions required.) The IVA-W205 also offers Bluetooth connectivity, allowing for hands-free control of compatible cellular phones and streaming audio from Bluetooth A2DP enabled portable devices. iPod connectivity for the IVA-W205 is made possible through Alpine’s Full Speed Connection for iPod cable (KCE-422i, $30 SRI), which delivers an authentic iPod experience in the car. iPod owners simply plug in any iPod with a dock connector to the KCE-422i, permitting the IVA-W205 to control the iPod via the head unit’s touch screen. The IVA-W205 also shows advanced digital media tag information by displaying artist, album, song and playlist data for easy file navigation.

Searching for that favorite tune is made quick and easy thanks to Percentage Search, a built-in feature on the IVA-W205 that assigns sections of iPod files to the scroll bar on the bottom of the display monitor.

The IVA-W205 is equipped with high-resolution 24-bit DAC and optical outputs so audio enthusiasts can enjoy crisp, crystal-clear sound detail from their music. It also boasts full processor control and multi-channel playback capabilities with Dolby Digital®, Dolby Pro-Logic® II and DTS® support, when connected to the appropriate system-building components.
