The Traffic Avoiding GPS
From Hammacher Schlemmer comes the Traffic Avoiding GPS. This GPS receiver provides real-time traffic information, and its maps guide you through the United States (including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico) and Canadian provinces (including the Yukon Territory). The GPS uses Traffic Message Channel technology and a pop-up message appears on the screen indicating traffic congestion, and gives you an alternate route. The system allows you to add your own points of interest or download your own car icon to appear on the screen instead of the standard directional arrow.
Take a wrong turn? No problem. With fast route calculation, you are notified in a clear voice if you take a wrong turn so you can quickly get back on track. It has 2GB of flash memory that contains driving maps, including restaurants, gas stations, hotels, and more, while also providing room for MP3 storage. Its FM transmitter allows you to play music through your car radio and it has an SD card slot for additional memory.
The 4 1/4" LCD touchscreen features 480 x 272 resolution, and automatically adjusts its brightness based on lighting conditions. The unit can be powered by a car cigarette lighter, or via its built-in rechargeable battery for portability. Includes one year of traffic information service; $59.95 annual service charge applies after the first year. $599.95. www.hammacher.com
