Kingston Technology just announced that award-winning sports photographer Peter Read Miller has published a new series of tips and techniques for Kingston’s Icons of Photography Website. This month, Peter Read Miller provides insider tips on how to get great shots during a football game.
Whether it’s your favorite NFL team or local school team, Miller’s tips are invaluable for those who want to capture great action shots like a pro. Kingston’s “Icons of Photography” website profiles some of the world’s most respected photographers. Each month the company spotlights a different Icon plus their tips, techniques and an online gallery of images. Advice and anecdotes are shared for taking better pictures on topics ranging from lighting and backgrounds, to color profiling and making the most of equipment. Through ‘try it yourself’ suggestions, Icons explain how they tackle their own photography challenges.
During his 40-year career as a sports photographer, Peter Read Miller has covered a lot of football games. In this month’s tip, Miller discusses the value of preparation for shooting football and how the work you do off the field will help ensure you’re in the right place at the right time on the field.
“If you’re going to shoot a sport as complex and demanding as football, you have to be prepared,” says Peter Read Miller. “Understanding the sport and the strategy of the sport are really essential to capturing great photos. Most people take this for granted and they shouldn’t. It could mean the difference between shooting like a pro and sitting on the bench,” Miller adds.
Peter has been a sports photographer for more than 30 years and shooting for Sports Illustrated for more than 20 years and has more than 90 covers to his credit. He has spent many hours at the world’s greatest sporting events, capturing fast-moving action on the field. Photography started as a hobby for Peter Read Miller in high school. He attended college at the University of Southern California where he shot for both the yearbook and athletic department. In addition to Sports Illustrated, Peter’s other editorial clients include: Time, Life, People, Money, Playboy, Runner’s World, USA Weekend and The New York Times.
