movie with envelopes Peerflix has announced a new online trading process for those who own the 6+ billion DVDs out there. The new Peerflix community will include a cash economy – meaning users will earn cash value for their DVDs. Each trade earns them more cash. If and when they choose to leave the community, they can cash out and walk away with their account balance. As new DVD formats (HD DVD and Blu-ray) enter the market, users can upgrade their DVD collection.

With the new DVD trading platform, Peerflix has created one of the first examples of a social commerce engine that will continue to disrupt the online DVD rental and movie download models. Peerflix has married community and commerce so that DVD owners can continue to efficiently and cost-effectively enjoy movies.

Peerflix is also announcing the Paparazzi Project. Peerflix has assembled a panel of judges who will award independent film makers and film students with a grant to product a documentary about the life of paparazzi. The chosen team (writer, director, producer) will be funded by Peerflix to make a “straight to DVD” documentary that will be delivered to the Peerflix community of 350,000+ users. Dailies (short takes from the current week of filming) will be released on Peerflix and select entertainment partners. Independent film makers and film students will have the chance to showcase their work to a captivated audience eliminating the arduous process of receiving studio and financial support to release a production ready film. The Peerflix community will experience the Paparazzi Project as it happens.

In the past two years Peerflix has established the leading online presence for trading DVDs. Nearly a quarter million registered users have completed more than 400,000 total trades in each of the 50 states. More than 25,000 DVD trades occur on Peerflix each month. Users are replacing traditional and online DVD rentals by leveraging something they already own.
