500hp Aerial Atom Expected to Cost $160,000+

 Aerial Atom

What makes the Aerial Atom worth this price tag? Well, simply put, this open-wheeled roadster will take on and take down the Bugatti Veyron. The 500hp, V8 equipped Aerial Atom will do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. Also, at just 1,102 pounds, the Aerial Atom is roughly 1/4 the weight of the 4,160 pound Veyron.

The price tag is also inflated because of the special RS Performance 10,000 RPM engine that goes for about $48,000 and the six-speed sequential gearbox that runs about $17,000. Also, the Aerial Atom is equipped with Alcon brakes, Dymag wheels, and numerous carbon fiber aero-aids.Read more

9ff Tunes the Porsche 911 GT2, Nearly Hits 240mph!

 Porsche 911 BT-2

Famous Porsche tuner, 9ff, has literally created a GT2 supercar. Dubbed the BT-2, 9ff has added a new exhaust system, slight tweaking of the ECU and some aerodynamic mods to make this car practically a death trap. The GT2 has power like a 911 Turbo, but does not have the all-wheel-drive system like one; strictly rear-wheel-drive only.

After the modifications, the BT-2 hammers out 850hp (634kW) and 678lb-ft (920Nm) of torque. It can rotate the Earth so fast that it can do 0-62mph in just 3 seconds flat, while nearly hitting 200mph in 19 seconds.

If you have a straight enough road and like to tease death, the BT-2 will almost hit a top speed of 240mph, a speed not far off from what the Bugatti Veyron supercar's 252mph.

New Lotus Esprit to be highly competitive with the Audi R8 and Lamborghini LP560-4?

 Lotus Esprit sketch

According to rumors flying around, it seems that the 2012 Lotus Esprit will come equipped with the 200+ mph capable, 4.8-liter 500 horsepower V10 engine from the Lexus LF-A or the 5.0-liter, 417 horsepower V8 from the Lexus IS-F. There's also a rumor that an entry-level model might appear featuring the 300-horsepower direct-injection Toyota V6 engine.

Aside from these rumors, it looks like Lotus is working very closely with Tesla Motors or creating eco-friendly variants of its cars. Would you really care about an electric/hybrid Lotus Esprit when you could buy one with a 500 horsepower engine? Plus, with prices the way they are, both types would probably cost the same.

Porsche 911 GT2

Ohio based tuner, Switzer Performance, is offering an 800hp (597kW) twin-turbo kit for the insane 997 Porsche 911 GT2. Tym Switzer and the guys at SPI have given this Porsche high horsepower with an efficient and linear power curve that creates a very smooth ride for the driver. You want feel the boost kick in and snap your neck. Also, this car can still run on normal fuel, 93 octane.

To help keep this ride manageable, the SPI crew has added in-house developed headers, a sport exhaust system, a new intercooler package and custom GT30R turbochargers. Note that this is a 100% bolt-on setup, due to the fact that the ECU has been left completely untouched.

Check out the Switzer Performance's GT2 on the dyno here.

BMW Introduces Voice Control in Cars

 BMW Voice Control

BMW just announced they have a new voice control system that will be available on new cars in September 2009. The BMW Voice Control System lets you control features in your car such as your phone, climate control, navigation and sound systems, all with your spoken commands.

To activate the voice control system, simply press a key on the steering wheel, and tell the system what to do. It can recognize up to 500 preset terms, (depending on your BMW's features). Your commands are picked up by the hands-free microphone and each time you give a command, the system emits a tone to let you know it has been understood.

Up to forty telephone numbers can be saved and it has a text-to-speech function that can read aloud e-mails, SMS messages and the names of radio stations. But not only that, BMW is the first European car maker to offer voice recognition that can find individual music titles. The system monitors and interprets your voice commands regarding the type of music, the name of the artist, an album or an individual title. The system then gives you a choice of audio files saved on the hard disc in a title list – and as of spring 2010, the system will cover files on a music player connected to the car.

The new voice control system will be available on cars sold in Austria, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States in September 2009.
