Nuance, creators of the highly acclaimed Dragon line of voice recognition software, today announced Dragon Express, a voice recognition app for Mac OS X Lion.

Touting the same speech recognition engine as the company's $199 Dragon Dictate, Dragon Express converts speech to text, but with a much cheaper price tag - $49.99. Using the app, you can send emails, surf the Web, and even update your Facebook and Twitter, all without laying a hand on your keyboard.

Dragon Express is accessed from your computer's menu bar and doesn't require a network connection. Simply dictate directly into the Dragon Express window using the internal Mac microphone or a USB headset microphone, and the text appears in the Dragon Express window. When you're finished, Dragon Express places the transcribed text into the application of choice.

Dragon Express is available for download from Apple's Mac App Store, and at $49.99, is a great app for those trying out speech recognition for the first time.

If you need more advanced features, Dragon Dictate 2.5 adds in the ability to dictate directly into applications, edit, format and correct recognition errors by voice, open and close applications by voice, control the mouse by voice, create custom voice commands and more.

More information on Dragon Dictate 2.5 for Mac can be found on the Nuance website.
