Consumers looking for a high-end Blu-ray player – pay attention. Onkyo just announced its BD-SP809. Not a standard Blu-ray player by any means, this baby is THX Certified, plays 3D Blu-ray Discs and can connect to your home network to stream services such as Netflix and VUDU, along with videos, music and photos stored on a DLNA 1.5-certified media server.
The BD-SP809 plays all the major types of CDs and DVDs—including DivX HD, MP3, and WMA and includes a USB port for playing audio and video files from a USB storage device. The player includes Onboard Qdeo technology from Marvell for deinterlacing, noise-reduction and 1080p upscaling, delivering a picture sure to please the most discerning videophile.
It also has two HDMI outputs for connection to both a TV and home theater projector, component output, TOSLINK and digital coax outputs, as well as an RS-232 port for home automation integration. In addition, the BD-SP809 features independent circuit blocks for audio, digital video, and analog video to reduce electromagnetic interference.
On the audio side, the BD-SP809 supports DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD, features gold-plated analog audio outputs on the rear and a vibration-reducing top cover.
The Onkyo BD-SP809 will be available in August for $599.
