The Ultimate 3D Projection System: SIM2's Grand Cinema C3X LUMIS 3D

 SIM2 Grand Cinema C3X LUMIS 3D

Generally we don't cover ultra high-end custom home theater gear, but when heard people buzzing about SIM2's demo of the Grand Cinema C3X LUMIS 3D dual-projection system at CES, and discovered that it was the winner of the 2011 Innovations Design and Engineering Award from the Consumer Electronics Association…needless to say, it caught our attention. Not to mention the fact that Francis Ford Coppola - legendary film director, writer and producer - owns SIM2 projectors in both his studio and at home. That, alone, made us want to delve deeper into SIM2's latest projection system.

The first thing you need to know is the Grand Cinema C3X LUMIS 3D isn't your standard home theater projection system. This baby uses two C3X LUMIS three-chip, Full HD DLP projectors to recreate 3D images that are just as good (if not better) than what you'll find at your local movie theater. Delivering up to 6,000 lumens to a standard screen, each projector is outfitted with an internal motorized 3D Infitec filter that is configurable for either 2D or 3D images at Full HD resolution (1080p). The system easily changes for 2D or 3D viewing too… with just the touch of a button.

Thanks to Infinitec 3D technology, the system doesn't require a silver screen material like most 3D projectors; you can use your own screen with no issues, meaning 2D performance isn't compromised as well. In addition, active shutter glasses often used for 3D HDTV's aren't needed, the C3X LUMIS 3D uses passive glasses (which are included).

With an MSRP of $79,999, the C3X LUMIS 3D isn't for the average consumer. This system was designed for those who want the absolute best in their home theater, and have the pocketbook to match. Do we think it delivers? You better believe it.
