Best Buy to Launch Nexus S After December 16
Best Buy has partnered with Google on the exclusive North American launch of the Nexus S smartphone. Developed by Google and Samsung, Nexus S is the first smartphone with Android 2.3, known as "Gingerbread."
Available after Dec. 16, 2010 in Best Buy stores, Best Buy Mobile stores and on BestBuy.com, Nexus S will be priced at $529 as an unlocked phone with no contract. You will be able to pick it using T-Mobile's network for $199 with a two-year service agreement and qualifying voice and data plan.
Nexus S features a 4-inch Contour Display, and is the first mobile phone to have this curved design. The design is said to give the phone a more ergonomic feel when you hold it to your face. It includes a 1GHz application processor, Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" and supports both Flash and HTML5. Nexus S also features Near Field Communication (NFC) technology which allows you to read information off of stickers and posters that are embedded with NFC chips.
Additional features include a 5 megapixel rear facing camera/camcorder, a VGA front facing camera, gyroscope sensor for smooth gaming, and 16 GB of internal memory. It has access to Google's mobile services (Google Search, Gmail, YouTube, Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google Voice), and a Voice Actions feature allows you to text friends, search for and call stores, write notes, receive directions via Google Maps, and call and email your contacts by speaking into the smartphone.
"We have invested a lot of time and resources to ensure people get the smart phone and support that's right for them, and we expect to see significant consumer excitement focused on Nexus S," said Mike Vitelli, president of the Americas for Best Buy. "This is a groundbreaking mobile device that you have to see to believe, and that's exactly what people can do at every Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile location. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Google and Samsung to launch this phone in time for the holidays."
