320GB PlayStation 3 Coming Soon for $349.99

Sony announced on Thursday that they are now shipping a standalone 320GB PlayStation 3 to retail stores. The 320GB unit was announced back in August, but it was only available as a bundle with the PlayStation Move motion controller. So now if you don't want to purchase a PlayStation Move but want a larger hard drive, you've got it!

The 320GB PlayStation 3 will sell for $349.99…not bad considering that's just $50 more than the 160GB PS3. But my question is this - could anyone possibly ever need that much space on their PS3? I guess Sony is hoping those who purchase the 320GB unit will fill it up with tons of PlayStation Network games, TV shows and the like. Just more money in their pocket, right?

Sony does point out that now there are more options for downloadable content than ever before, with PlayStation Move games like Tumble, Beat Sketcher, PAIN, echochrome ii and Dead Nation coming soon. And of course there are the downloadable HD movies…they can take up hard drive space. I just don't see my family needing 320GB. But I'm sure there are some out there that would want it, even if it's just to say they have it.
