New Apple TV, shuffle, iPod touch, nano and iTunes 10 with Ping Unveiled

 Apple TV

At Apple's media event today they announced a slew of new products; the new Apple TV, an iPod touch, a new shuffle, an iPod nano with multi-touch and iTunes 10 with Ping.

The new Apple TV hits stores later this month and features the largest online selection of HD movies to rent, with first run movies priced at just $4.99. HD TV shows can also be rented from ABC, ABC Family, Fox, Disney Channel and BBC America for 99 cents. Apple TV also streams content from Netflix, YouTube, Flickr and MobileMe, as well as music, photos and videos from PCs and Macs to your HD TV.

Apple TV features built-in HDMI, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and an internal power supply for easy set-up. It's up to 80 percent smaller than the previous generation, measuring in at less than 4 inches square. Apple TV can also be controlled via iPhone, iPad or iPod touch using the Remote app, available as a free download on the App Store. It will be available in late September for just $99.

 Apple iPod touch

The new iPod touch is the thinnest and lightest iPod touch to date. It has tons of new features including Apple's Retina display, FaceTime video calling, HD video recording, Apple's A4 chip, 3-axis gyro, iOS 4.1 and Game Center. It also features up to 40 hours of music playback and seven hours of video playback on a single battery charge.

A favorite feature of the iPhone 4, the new iPod touch has a front-facing camera and mic, allowing you to make FaceTime video calls over Wi-Fi. The rear-facing camera can be used to capture HD video and when used with the iMovie app, you can combine movie clips, photos and music right on the device. The iMovie app can be purchased for $4.99 through the App Store.

The new iPod touch will be available next week for $229 for the 8GB model, $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB model through the Apple Store.

 Apple iPod nano

Nearly half the size and weight of the previous generation, the new iPod nano has been completely redesigned. It now features the popular Multi-Touch interface, so you can navigate your music collection by tapping or swiping a finger on the display. It is made of a polished aluminum and glass and features a built-in clip. The new iPod nano also has Genius Mixes, the ability to create and edit playlists, a built-in FM radio with live pause and it touts up to 24 hours of music playback on a single battery charge.

The new iPod nano will be available next week for $149 for the 8GB model and $179 for the 16GB model. Both models are available in silver, graphite, blue, green, orange and pink. The 8GB and 16GB iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED will also be available through the Apple Store and Apple's retail stores.

 Apple iPod shuffle

The new iPod shuffle has also been redesigned and includes clickable "ring" buttons as well as Apple's VoiceOver technology, allowing you to navigate music and playlists without looking at the device. It also now supports Genius Mixes.

Featuring an all-aluminum enclosure and a built-in clip, the wearable shuffle comes in five colors—silver, blue, green, orange and pink. It touts almost 50 percent more battery life, giving you over 15 hours of music on a single charge. It has 2GB of storage and will be available next week for $49.

 iTunes 10 with Ping

iTunes gets social with the new iTunes 10 with Ping. It allows you to follow your favorite artists and friends to find out what music they're talking about, listening to and downloading. iTunes Ping lets you post your thoughts and opinions, your favorite albums and songs, the music you've downloaded from iTunes, plus view concert listings and tell your friends which concerts you plan to attend. iTunes 10 also features HD TV show rentals for 99 cents an episode and AirPlay wireless music playback.

With AirPlay wireless music playback, you can listen to your music on remote speakers using Apple's AirPort Express base station. Don't have an AirPort Express? It also now works without AirPort Express, using speakers, receivers and stereo systems from companies including Bowers & Wilkins, JBL, Denon and iHome, so you can listen to your iTunes music library wirelessly from any room in the house with no extra gear required.

iTunes 10 is available immediately as a free download at www.itunes.com.
