Apple Announces New Mac Pro Line, Updates iMacs, Intros New LED Display


 Apple Mac Pro with new LED Display

Today Apple announced a new Mac Pro line featuring up to 12 processing cores and latest quad-core and 6-core Intel Xeon processors, all-new ATI graphics, and for the first time, the option for up to four 512GB solid state drives (SSD).

The Mac Pro also comes with Apple's Magic Mouse and a new Magic Trackpad is also available as an optional accessory. The wireless Magic Trackpad features a glass surface and allows you to use the Multi-Touch gestures of a Mac notebook on your desktop. The Magic Trackpad sells for $69.

"The new Mac Pro is the most powerful and configurable Mac we've ever made," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "With up to 12 cores, the new Mac Pro outperforms our previous top-of-the-line system by up to 50 percent, and with over a billion possible configurations, our customers can create exactly the system they want."

The new Mac Pro computers will be available in August. Prices start at $2,499 for the quad-core, $3,499 for the 8-core and $4,999 for the 12-core.


 Apple iMac with Magic Trackpad

The iMac line has been updated as well with the latest Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The new iMac line features dual-core processor speeds up to 3.6 GHz, and quad-core speeds up to 2.93 GHz. The new iMacs also offer ATI Radeon HD 4670 discrete graphics. Prices start at $1,199 for the 21.5-inch model. The 27-inch model starts at $1699. The new iMac line is available now.


 27-inch LED Cinema Display

Apple also unveiled a new 27-inch LED Cinema Display with 2560 x 1440 resolution and 60 percent more screen real estate than the 24-inch LED Cinema Display. It features a built-in iSight camera, microphone and speakers, USB 2.0 hub and universal MagSafe connector. The new LED Cinema Display will be available in September for $999.
