New VAIO PCs Act as a Personal Hotspot for Multiple Devices
Sony's new VAIO Z and Y Series laptops are "the world's first out-of-the box laptops that act as a personal hotspot." Select models include an embedded wireless technology called Share My Connection (SMC) which can turn your laptop into a mobile wireless access point. Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband service is required, and once activated, Share My Connection converts the wireless mobile broadband signal into a Wi-Fi signal that can be transmitted through your PC to up to five Wi-Fi-enabled PCs or devices.
The Z model features a 13.1-inch high-resolution LED backlit widescreen display, weighs in at about 3.0 lbs, and delivers up to seven hours of battery life. It has a durable carbon fiber and aluminum casing and also comes with an optical drive (Blu-ray optical drive optional).
The Y Series laptops are geared toward the younger crowd with its five colors including purple violet, fuchsia pink, pear green, teal blue and black. It has a thin 1.2-inch profile and 13.3-inch LED backlit widescreen display.
Both the Z and Y Series are available now for pre-sale at www.sony.com/SMC for about $770 for the VAIO Y Series and $1950 for the VAIO Z Series.
