At CES today, Lok8u announced nu•m8. Designed as a child's watch, nu•m8 can pinpoint the location of a wearer within 10 feet using a combination of cellular identification technology and GPS. Parents are able to set boundaries, instantly access the location of the wearer via SMS texting, or through the Lok8u Web portal. Also, because nu•m8 was designed for parents to locate their children (not just the device), parents receive notification if the device is removed from the wearer.

Nu•m8 is now available for pre-sale at several online stores including Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, WalMart.com, Sears.com, ToysRUs.com and on Lok8u's site, www.lok8u.com, for $179.99.

The company also announced multi•m8, a new GPS-enabled locator watch for lone workers, those with employment location demands, adults and seniors with health issues, such as Alzheimer's sufferers, and consumers who participate in outdoor sports activities where carrying a mobile phone is inconvenient, including hikers and skiers.

Multi•m8, just like nu•m8, also uses a combination of patented cellular identification technology and GPS to pinpoint the location of a wearer accurately within 10 feet.

Multi•m8 includes a messaging compatible LCD screen, panic button to summon immediate help and a voice recorder. The device will be available in summer 2010. Pricing has not been announced.

LOK8U INTRODUCES MULTI•M8, A NEW GPS LOCATOR WATCH FOR ADULTS WHO WORK ALONE, AT RISK SENIORS AND SPORTS PARTICPANTS, AT CES 2010

Lok8u Also Secures U.S. Retail Distribution for nu•m8, Original Child Locator Device

Jan. 7, 2010 -- Lok8u Ltd., a global provider of location based safety solutions, today launched multi•m8, a new GPS-enabled locator watch designed to enhance the personal safety of consumers. Using a combination of patented cellular identification technology and GPS for quick and accurate reporting, multi•m8 pinpoints the location of a wearer accurately within 10 feet.

Multi•m8 is aimed specifically at lone workers, those with employment location demands, workers engaged in challenging environments, adults and seniors with health issues, such as Alzheimer's sufferers, and consumers who participate in outdoor sports activities where carrying a mobile phone is inconvenient, including hikers and skiers.

"All too often we hear about people who are alone, find themselves in a difficult situation and are unable to summon help or to be located. Multi•m8 functions as the ideal safety network, quickly and accurately identifying a person's location," said Steve Salmon, chief executive of Lok8u.

Multi•m8 is also designed to assist family members and health practitioners locate family members or patients who have Alzheimer's or similar medical conditions which can induce them to wander. According to the Mayo Clinic, Alzheimer's disease can erase a person's memory of familiar surroundings and make adaptation to new surroundings extremely difficult. As a result, people with Alzheimer's sometimes wander. With multi•m8, those who wander can be found more quickly and with a greater degree of accuracy, lessening the chance of injury.

Designed as an adult watch, multi•m8 includes a messaging compatible LCD screen, panic button to summon immediate help and a voice recorder. The device is available for demonstrations at Lok8u's CES booth (North 3309) with plans for availability in summer 2010.

In addition, Lok8u announced the availability of nu•m8 in the U.S. starting January 2010. Designed as a child's watch, nu•m8 can pinpoint the location of a wearer to within 10 feet using a combination of cellular identification technology and GPS for quick and accurate reporting.

Parents are able to set boundaries, instantly access the location of the wearer via SMS texting, or through the Lok8u Web portal. In addition, because nu•m8 is designed to ensure parents locate their children, not the device, they receive notification upon forced removal of the device.

Nu•m8, available for $179.99, is now on pre-sale at several online stores including Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, WalMart.com, Sears.com, ToysRUs.com and on Lok8u's site (www.lok8u.com).

"With retail distribution nu•m8 gives U.S. parents increased peace of mind for their child’s safety by providing location information via mobile phone or computer," said Salmon. "With nu•m8, children can enjoy the freedom of playing outdoors much like I did when I was a kid."

I agree with you guys.. this watch is more awesome than other watch i've seen..I like this too :D

gone thru two lok8u watches not working yet

I bought the first watch did all the steps they say to do, and the watch would not respond to the web site or my phone. I got the email and text message confirming I was ready to go, but the watch did not respond to my commands. I called several times to customer service, they were nice but not much help. Did all they said to do, wait for the email, wait the 24 hours, do the update, go outside, but watch did not work. I would open the watch with the tool without turning it off (because I was not able too) and nothing would happen. It did not show that it was compromised. Then close the watch again, and it would act as if it was turning on, horizontal lines would appear, but then these lines would go away and the watch appeared to be off. Basically no communication between watch and cell phone or portal. I have a iphone and I have great coverage where I live. I was told they use T-mobile, they checked to see if there was coverage where I live, and there was? Finally they said it must be a bad watch. I had to give them my Credit Card to get a new one out as soon as possible. And I sent the bad one back. I did not have to pay shipping or anything.
Now I have the new one, and I have the exact same problem I had with the first one! I am very upset, because I cannot get the watch to work. You can only call customer service during business hours from Monday thru Friday. I work full time, so I have to call them while I work. I have tried to email them and they never respond. Today is Saturday, I will have to wait till Monday to call again, and see if there is anything that can be done. It looks like I will be returning it.
This is not a reliable devise to locate your child. I am still looking at other options. So far haven't had muck luck. If anybody has any ideas with another company please share the info.
If anybody has had any luck with this watch please let me know what was done?
