Skiff Reader: Largest, Thinnest e-Reader to Date
Skiff and Sprint just announced that they will preview the Skiff Reader at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas later this week.
The Skiff Reader is the first e-reader optimized for newspaper and magazine content. It measures 11.5" (diagonally) and has a resolution of 1200 x 1600 pixels (UXGA) - the largest and highest-resolution electronic-paper display yet in a consumer device. At just over a quarter-inch in overall height, the device is also the thinnest e-reader to date. The device weighs just over one pound and lasts over a week of average use between charges. It features a full touchscreen to easily navigate newspapers, magazines, books and other digital content purchased through the Skiff Store.
The Skiff Reader is the first consumer product to feature the next-generation of e-paper display – one based on a thin, flexible sheet of stainless-steel foil. Skiff has worked closely with LG Display to optimize this first-of-its-kind non-glass display.
Skiff has signed a multi-year agreement with Sprint to provide 3G connectivity for Skiff's e-reading devices in the United States. In addition to 3G, the Skiff Reader will also support wireless connectivity via WiFi.
The Skiff Reader will be available later this year at Sprint stores and online at www.sprint.com. Pricing has not been announced.
