LG Unveils World's Thinnest LCD TV
LG Display announced today that it has developed the world's thinnest LCD TV panel measuring just 2.6mm (.1 inch) thin! The 42-inch panel offers full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution with120Hz refresh rate, and weighs in at less than 8.8 pounds.
The prototype LCD panel features half the thickness of the company's previous thinnest display, a 5.9mm model that was unveiled in May. The development of this new LCD panel was made possible by using an ultra-slim, edge-lit LED backlight system and proprietary optical film technology.
No additional information such as pricing or availability was given. LG Display will be showcasing the product at the upcoming 2010 CES trade show in January, so I'm sure we'll find out more then.

So, what good is the 2.6mm thin screen when most of the jacks etc are at the back of the unit and need up to 5cm for clearance?
