Texas Instruments Intros Devices with DLP Pico Technology

 LG eXpo smartphone

Texas Instruments' DLP Pico technology had big news this past week, with the announcement of the first smartphone in the U.S. with an attachable pico projector accessory, as well as a new multimedia/gaming projector using the latest DLP Pico chipset. Both sell for less than $200.

The LG eXpo smartphone was announced on the AT&T network. Weighing just 1.8 ounces, it features a DLP Pico projector attachment accessory that easily attaches to the back of the phone and projects an image up to 60 inches. The LG eXpo is available now for $179.

Also last week, the new Brightboxe multimedia/gaming DLP projector in was launched at select Target stores in southern California. The Brightboxe DLP Projector was developed with video gamers in mind, connecting to the Wii, Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3. The DLP Pico chipset in the Brightboxe projector features native DVD resolution (480p) and a 500:1 contrast ratio. Since it uses pure RGB LEDs as its light source, the Brightboxe creates a wide color gamut, 50L image and never needs lamp replacement. This Brightboxe DLP Projector creates a 60-inch image in normal light conditions and images of greater than 100 inches in controlled lighting.

The Brightboxe DLP Projector is just $199, making it one of the lowest priced projectors on the market.
