Panasonic Intros 85-Inch Full HD Pro Plasma Display

 Panasonic TH-85PF12U

Panasonic just announced the availability of the TH-85PF12U, the industry's first 85-inch, full HD 1080p plasma display. Weighing in at just 260 lbs, and only 3.9 inches thin, this plasma is much thinner and lighter than past models, thanks to Panasonic's NeoPDP technology. Also, it uses about half the energy of Panasonic's current full HD models in the same sizes, and has an image resolution of 1,080 lines – which is the world's highest moving image resolution. It also has the highest contrast ratio at 40,000:1 / 2,000,000:1 dynamic.

The TH-85PF12U will come standard with the TYFB10HMD Dual 1080p HDMI card, the TY42TM6A component card as well as a fixed PC input. Also, this unit will be equipped with anti-glare glass as standard. All of this comes at a cost, however. The TH-85PF12U has an MSRP of $30,000.

PANASONIC ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF INDUSTRY’S FIRST 85-INCH FULL HD PROFESSIONAL PLASMA DISPLAY

Panasonic’s NeoPDPTM Technology Delivers Slimmer, Lighter, Brighter 85-inch Professional Plasma Featuring World’s Highest Moving Image Resolution and Contrast Ratio

October 29, 2009 — Panasonic Professional Display Company, a unit of Panasonic Corporation of North America, the industry leader in professional Plasma displays, announced availability of its recently unveiled TH-85PF12U 85-inch Plasma display. Ideal for display, education, business, and custom home-theater applications, the TH-85PF12U is the industry’s first 85-inch, full HD 1080p Plasma.

Filling the gap in Panasonic’s lineup between the critically acclaimed 65- and 103-inch large-format professional displays, the 85-inch Plasma is the equivalent in screen size to four 42-inch displays. The TH-85PF12U takes advantage of Panasonic’s NeoPDP technology to deliver a slimmer, lighter weight and brighter display that consumes about half the energy of Panasonic’s current and 2007 full HD models in the same sizes, while achieving the world’s highest moving image resolution (1,080 lines) and the highest contrast ratio (40,000:1 / 2,000,000:1 dynamic). Even with effective wide-screen dimensions of 74.4 by 41.8 inches, the TH-85PF12U is significantly thinner and lighter than past Plasmas, with a main body depth of only 3.9 inches and an overall weight of approximately 260 lbs.

"The size of the 85-inch Plasma is one of the most important factors for the commercial market. It is the perfect size for many boardrooms, video conference applications, and command and control applications," said Andrew Nelkin, president of Panasonic Professional Display Company. "Combine that with the reduced weight and lower power consumption resulting from our NeoPDP technology, and it’s easy to see why we are excited about introducing the 85-inch to our line."

Panasonic’s NeoPDP™ technology is a new energy-efficient, double-luminance technology. With higher luminance performance, Panasonic’s NeoPDP™ delivers brighter images with deeper, richer blacks and less energy. In addition, NeoPDP™ technology produces a highly accurate 6,144 steps of gradation with a color gamut expanded to 110% of the HDTV standard for the most vivid, true-to-life color of any large format display.
