Review: Hover Kart

Hover Kart is the newest awesome game from OMGPOP. All the games that OMGPOP offer are free-to-play with micro transactions. In Hover Kart you must have a Star Account in order to upgrade and customize your karts. A Star Account only costs $5 a month.

When Hover Kart launched last week, there were over 300,000 matches played in the first 24 hours! Currently, there have been over 26,831 hours played on this game alone!

In Hover Kart, you race against your friends to be the first to the finish line, while using items to slow down the competition. During the races you can earn coins and use them to buy new karts. OMGPOP is adding new tracks nearly every day, too.

The controls are simple: use the arrow keys to steer, shift to hurdle objects and to initiate drift and the space bar to use an item that you have picked up. This game is very similar to the great SNES title, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, which is still one of my favorite racing games to date.

You can set the game's screen size and quality to three different settings which make this game playable on even the most underpowered netbook. The overall graphics are nice and crisp featuring vibrant colors and unique designs.

OMGPOP's motto is "play games, meet people, hang out." You can sign up for a free profile, upload a photo, give some information about yourself, and make friends. You then can invite your friends to your own match, too. It's kind of like Xbox Live, except, you know, FREE. OMGPOP also offers leaderboards, chatrooms and forums.

I didn't follow a specific layout for this review, because this game is technically FREE, and there is nothing wrong with a FREE game. Go play it, you'll enjoy it and the other titles OMGPOP offers.
