Nintendo DSi: Play Music, Download Games, Take Pictures

Nintendo DSi Nintendo just announced that their next generation DSi will be coming out on April 5th with an MSRP of $169.99. It will be available in blue and black. I was kind of surprised that they are offering it in only two colors, but who knows…maybe more color choices will be announced closer to the release date.

What makes this new DSi stand out is the DSi Camera – it actually has two cameras - one camera is on the external body, and the second one points at the user when it is flipped open. It has 10 different interactive "lenses" that you can use to do all kinds of silly things to your photos; like stretch faces, add glasses, combine pictures etc. using the touch screen.

Another feature is the DSi Sound application, which is both a voice recorder and music player. But it goes a step further, by letting you choose different audio filters to control the pitch, speed and tempo of a song or recorded voice. There is also a stereo headphone output so you can listen to music saved on an SD card.

Want to download games to your DSi? With built in Wi-Fi, and similar to WiiWare on the Wii console, you will be able to purchase and download software with the new DSiWare application using Nintendo DSi Points. DSiWare games will be available starting at 200 points. The system will also be able to play (most) Nintendo DS games, however, GameBoy Advance games will not be supported.

Nintendo says that more features will be released closer to April 5th. Until then, visit www.nintendodsi.com.

DSi music

the DSi can only take AAC music if you put that music on iTunes and right click the song it will give you a list of choices. you will need to click on ( convert to aac). a second song will appear under it ( thats the AAC file) i would recommend deleting the mp3 because the AAC is just as good. PS: wait to delete the mp3 untill the AAC is done converting

From the Nintendo DSi support

From the Nintendo DSi support website:

"In order to listen to songs on your Nintendo DSi, you will first need to copy the songs you want to listen to onto a compatible SD or SDHC card. Keep in mind, not all songs are compatible with the Nintendo DSi. Some songs may be copy protected and will not work. The Nintendo DSi is compatible with AAC audio files with a filename extension of .m4a, .mp4, or .3gp."

Nintend DSi - can't play AAC music files

I have converted my songs to aac format and put on an SD card but they still will not play on new DSi. What else can you do? I'm really disappointed. If anyoe can help it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Taken from Nintendo's Support website:
Converted files not working?
If you have converted music tracks to a compatible format, but are still getting a "couldn't play the track" error or the track simply won't play, you may want to test a compatible AAC track on your Nintendo DSi. We have created a test file in the correct AAC format that we know is compatible with the Nintendo DSi. This file is called "test.m4a" and if you would like to test it, follow these steps:

  • Click on this link and select "Save" or "Save As" to save the .zip file to your computer.
  • Find the .zip file on your computer, and double-click it to see a file named "test.m4a."
  • Copy test.m4a to your SD Card.
  • Put the SD Card in your Nintendo DSi and play AACTestSound2

If the test track plays, then you know your Nintendo DSi is working properly. Now try these additional steps:

  • Try converting your music files using a different media or audio converter.
  • You may also want to check out what other Nintendo DSi owners are finding useful on our Tech Support Forums.

Currently there are only

Currently there are only about 10 games/apps in the DSi Shop. This article states that Nintendo seems to be working on other types of apps for the DSi. It would certainly seem like a smart move.

thanks

Another question

Can you research and tell me anything you know about a halo,2,3 or halo wars for dsi. Just anything you know. I want Jessica to answer this too

Being that Halo is a

Being that Halo is a Microsoft product, I don't see them crossing platforms making it available to Nintendo. The Halo franchise has been part of the success of Xbox...similar to Mario on Nintendo.

the only games that you will

the only games that you will have a problem with are the guitar hero games that require the gba slat and maybe a few others that do that i dont know about

Wont the dsi affect people

Wont the dsi affect people that play pokemon games due to the fact that they need the gameboy advance games to complete the whole game? I have pokemon platinum and this came to my mind.

dsi

Hi from the UK.
Is there an R4 card that is compatible with DSi?
Jade

if you have i tunes u just go

if you have i tunes u just go to the music select it then go to edit and select preferences then from the general screen you select import settings then select import using acc encoder and it should work because im writing this from my dsi and i have music on an sd card that i can listen to

HOW???

Now I am understanding things quite fine but you do buy the DSi points in the local gaming store, right? Another question is can I use a normal SD card from my ZEN (normal MP3 player) or my camera? One more question is, can I use my old DSlite games with the DSi? Will those games still work in the console (DSi)?? Last one I swear- is the money worth buying the DSi since most places in the United States are selling them for $169.99? Was spending that much money worth it?

the best game

the Nintendo dsi is the best game i love it who ever does not have it should go get it it is very fun!!!!!!!!!!

ANSWERS

YES, All previous ds games are compatible with dsi (There is no such thing as a ds original or dslite specific game xcept for like..... guitar hero for the ds....but not many people liked it)
YES, the music thing is hard to figure out but it is really easy once you figure out how to do it.
YES, the dsi is worth buying because it is cool
NO, dont throw out your ipod and psp after you buy the dsi.....why would you do that??? you can listen to the music while its closed but not while playing games.... and the psp can play movies... but once the dsi can do both go ahead and sell or trash 'em

AND ps.... the dsi only reads sd/sdhc cards that have a maximum memory storage capability of 2gb

what else can i do

i heard that i tunes comes in aac format is that true or at least does anyone know a retailer that sells the conversion software

Yes, there is a specific type

Yes, there is a specific type of file you have to download, and that is AAC files. A really easy way to convert mp3,wep, etc. files into AAC files is by downloading itunes ,if you dont already have it, then putting all of your music on itunes. Then follow these steps:

1. Double click on your music file, a list of all of the music that is in that folder should appear.

2. Right click on the music that you want to convert into AAC format.

3. After you have right clicked press ″convert to AAC~. A ghost file of the music should show up.

4.Once converting is complete thevghost file shoukd become solid and a tone shpuld go of.

5.Drag the converted file onto your sd card.

6.Check on your dsi if you can play it, if you cannot you have either downloded the wrong file on your sd card or you hav not done something correct. If it plays you are done!

※Note that you can only convert one song at a time.

try using itunes to convert

try using itunes to convert your files. it works and its free.

if u cant get the music to
