Zoran's Vaddis 5 Powers Pioneer's New DVD Recorder Product
Pioneer's new DVD recorder DRV-3000, currently only for the Japanese market, allows consumers to record up to six hours of television content on a single disc. The recorder also offers high-quality archiving of digital camcorder footage onto a DVD disc via IEEE's standard 1394DV interface. The recorder can create DVD-Video format on DVD-R/RW media, as well as DVD-VR format on DVD-RW media. Audio video files stored in DVD-Video format can be played back on most DVD players currently on the market.
The Vaddis 5 improves the consumer's DVD playback experience by enabling menu creation and editing capabilities in the recorder. Convenience features, such as single-button record, automatic identification of empty space for recording, and flexible recorded program management, are long-desired improvements to the classic VCR recording process.
To deliver an unparalleled viewing experience, the Vaddis 5 employs the industry's highest quality progressive scan output, with motion-adaptive deinterlacing and 3:2 pull down conversion, available in this level of DVD system integration.
For secure handling of content and copy control, Vaddis 5 embeds the industry-approved Content Protection for Recordable Media (CPRM).
"Pioneer's goal is to offer the consumer an affordable, high-quality DVD recorder. Zoran's Vaddis 5 is a proven DVD decoding platform that allows us to deliver a high quality experience while also meeting aggressive time-to-market goals," said Mr. Yoshinori Hasegawa, manager of Consumer Video Products Division at Pioneer. "Along with the high quality audio features, Vaddis 5's superior progressive scan output meets the high expectations of Pioneer's DVD recorder consumers.
"In addition to DVD recording, Pioneer's DVD recorder offers consumers media playback compatibility with all popular DVD formats, digital video archiving to DVD, and Zoran's superior DVD system quality performance. Zoran's Vaddis 5 programmable processor brings a powerful, easy-to-use DVD recorder platform to the consumer's living room," said Camillo Martino, executive vice president and chief operations officer at Zoran Corporation.
