Zenith Reduces Prices on Plasma Display PanelsJune 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on its groundbreaking success with the industry's first 60-inch high-definition plasma display panel (PDP), Zenith Electronics Corporation has introduced a new, higher-brightness, high-contrast 60-inch HDTV display at a breakthrough price, the first 60-inch PDP with a suggested price under $15,000. Announced earlier this year at a suggested price of $20,000, the 60-inch PDP model P60W26 is now available at a suggested price of $14,999, reinforcing Zenith's commitment to making digital technology more widely accessible and affordable. In August 2001, Zenith earned the distinction of being the first to bring a 60-inch PDP to market (Model DPDP60W), which originally carried a suggested price of $30,000. Zenith also has repositioned the other big, flat and thin models in its 2002 PDP line, including the new 50-inch P50W26 16:9 HDTV Monitor, the 42-inch P42W22B 16:9 EDTV (enhanced-definition television) Monitor, and the 40-inch P40V22 4:3 EDTV Monitor. The P50W26, available in August, will carry a new suggested price of $10,999 (reduced from $12,000). The P42W22B and P40V22, available now, both carry suggested prices of $4,999 (reduced from $6,000). Because of the advanced engineering and manufacturing capabilities of its parent company, LG Electronics, Zenith is now able to offer the industry's best performance-value combination for plasma displays, consistent with Zenith's goal of being the dominant PDP supplier. The ultra-thin P60W26 HDTV Monitor features a high 1280 x 720p resolution capability that assures outstanding quality from a broad range of inputs that include Component, Composite, S-Video and RGB (VGA, SVGA, XGA and SXGA). The giant screen, as large as four 30-inch TVs combined, achieves an impressive contrast ratio of 550:1, while an internal Faroudja/Sage scaler provides Intelligent Image Scaling for maximum picture clarity. The monitor's numerous inputs make it fully compatible with DVDs, computers, digital broadcasting and multimedia, as well as traditional video sources. When used with a computer, a picture-in-picture mode keeps the TV image available in an inset box. Built-in aspect ratio correction allows the intelligent resizing of video and computer images to 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 conventional formats. The new P50W26 50-inch HDTV Monitor, which will be available in August, boasts resolution capability of 1366 x 768p and a high contrast ratio of 600:1. Multiple interfaces include Control/RGB, Hi-Res Component Video, Audio Left/Right/In/Loop Out, Composite In, RGB In 15-Pin, S-Video In and RS-232C. Zenith's P42W22B EDTV Monitor features a fan-free 42-inch display designed to deliver a high-quality 852 x 480p resolution picture at a more affordable price. High performance features, including an internal Faroudja/Sage scaler for Intelligent Image Scaling, built-in aspect ratio correction and RS-232 controls, are enhanced by an extraordinary contrast ratio of 650:1. The 40-inch P40V22 4:3 EDTV Monitor delivers a high quality picture featuring 640 x 480p resolution, enhanced by an exceptional contrast ratio of 700:1. This quiet, fan-free unit and its 42-inch widescreen cousin are ideal for environments where one wants a big picture in a smaller room. Like Zenith's other models, key features include built-in aspect ratio correction, and Composite, Component and RGB (VGA and SVGA) connections, assuring compatibility with digital and traditional video sources. All can be mounted on an optional tabletop pedestal. Wall mounting hardware, optional speakers and speaker stands also are available. Visit Zenith on the Web at http://www.zenith.com/.
